Not Everything We Learn Happens in a Classroom

Trying something unfamiliar. Waiting your turn. Encouraging someone else. Asking for help. Having a go even when you are unsure.

Confidence and independence are built in all kinds of places, not only behind a desk or on a job site.

Sometimes learning looks like a workbook. Sometimes it looks like getting outside, doing something different, and discovering you can manage more than you thought. ๐Ÿ’™

Things You Might Hear at The Living Link Before 10am

โ€œMorning!โ€
โ€œWhereโ€™s my workbook?โ€
โ€œCan you help me with this?โ€
โ€œI did it!โ€
โ€œWait, whose turn is it?โ€

And probably quite a lot of laughter in between.

A morning at The Living Link isnโ€™t only about what is being taught. Itโ€™s also about routines, relationships, figuring things out, asking for help and becoming more confident doing things for yourself.

These everyday moments might not make it onto a certificate, but they are an important part of learning, growing and becoming more independent.

Sometimes the best way to understand a programme is simply to listen to what an ordinary morning sounds like. ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŸ ๐ŸŸข

World Mental Health Day | Work, Belonging and Wellbeing
Tomorrow is World Mental Health Day. ๐Ÿ’™

Purpose, routine and being valued at work can all contribute to wellbeing. At The Living Link, confidence and belonging are built through learning, participation and meaningful opportunities.

Inclusive environments matter: people should be able to contribute, learn and grow with the support they need.

๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’š Stepping into Mental Health Awareness Month, mindfully.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, our Living Link learners took a mindful walk to slow down, connect with nature, practise grounding techniques, enjoy each otherโ€™s company and make space for their wellbeing. ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿƒ

A little reminder that looking after our mental health doesnโ€™t always require big steps. Sometimes, itโ€™s the little moments that make the biggest difference. ๐Ÿ’š

The Ordinary Stuff Matters Too | Community Beyond the Classroom

Not every important moment at The Living Link happens in a workbook or on a job site.

Sometimes it looks like this: learners and coaches sitting around a table, sharing a meal, talking, laughing and simply spending time together.

These moments might look ordinary, but they matter. Being part of a community, navigating social situations, building relationships and feeling that you belong are all part of growing in confidence and independence.

Work matters. Qualifications matter. Community matters too. ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŸ ๐ŸŸข

The Skill Behind the Task

You see a task. We see all the skills hiding inside it.

Following a sequence. Remembering what comes next. Working safely. Paying attention to detail. Managing time. Asking a question when something is unclear. Finishing what you started.

That is why practical training matters. A task that looks simple from the outside can be building several workplace skills at once.

Hello October | Mental Health Awareness Month

October is Mental Health Awareness Month in South Africa. ๐Ÿ’™

For us, wellbeing is not separate from learning, independence or preparing for work. It can be found in ordinary things: arriving somewhere and knowing you belong, mastering something that used to feel difficult, being trusted with responsibility, and having people around you who know when to support you and when to step back.

Sometimes it is simply the confidence that comes from realising: I can do this.

This month we are going inside The Living Link, sharing more of the people, moments, skills and workplaces behind that journey.

Hereโ€™s to a month of learning, belonging and creating abilities. ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŸ ๐ŸŸข
