We are a centre for people that are intellectually disabled, and we are a fully registered NPO. The Foundation proudly serves 450 children and adults who are totally dependent on The Hamlet Foundation for food, shelter, clothing, and training. We provide care, protection, education, training and
developmental opportunities for persons with a disability/disabilities. What we offer:
The Hamlet Sch
ool:
The school was formed with a few children, staff and volunteers. As the Children grew older and into the next stages of their lives, we realised that it was necessary to plan for the next stage of the Hamlet beneficiaries lives. The Hamlet Workshop:
The workshop was established to create opportunities for the intellectually disabled children, once they left school at the age of 18. This placed them in an environment where they could be cared for, protected, and their training could continue in academic skills, workplace ethics and skills programs. The Hamlet workshop is supported by approximately one-hundred and twenty-five adults and approximately ten employees who supervise and quality control all its projects. The Hamlet Residential Centre:
The residential centre was established because a lot of the children were being ill treated or abandoned by their families. These children were removed from these living conditions and placed in state aided childrenโs homes. Many of these children were already attending The Hamlet School. Funds had to raised to build a Residential Centre, to create a home for the youth/adults. The Hamlet Stimulation Centre:
The stimulation centre was established eight years ago, with funds received from a donor, with specific programs designed by an Occupational Therapist so that the intellectually disabled person that could not fit into the Workshop program would continue to have access to The Hamlet and would be cared for, trained, and developed. Today, 69 years later we proudly continue to provide services/programs for 554 persons with intellectual disability/disabilities.
