In his recent presentation of the 2024 budget speech, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana touched upon various important issues that affect all citizens of South Africa. However, similar to the State of the Nation Address ( ), Minister Godongwana missed crucial opportunities to address and tackle the pressing issue of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) that continues to plague the country.

The Gender-Based Violence and Femicide ( ) crisis in South Africa is a deep-rooted issue that requires urgent and decisive action. It is disappointing that the Finance Minister did not allocate specific funding for initiatives aimed at preventing and addressing GBVF in the budget speech.

Gender-based violence not only has a devastating impact on individuals and families, but it also has significant economic consequences. The costs of GBVF in terms of healthcare, lost productivity, and social services are staggering and place a huge burden on the economy. By failing to allocate resources towards combating GBVF, the government is effectively ignoring a critical issue that affects millions of South Africans.

It is crucial that the government takes proactive steps to address GBVF and allocate funding towards prevention, support services for survivors, and legal reforms to hold perpetrators accountable. This issue cannot be swept under the rug any longer, and it is time for the government to prioritise the safety and well-being of all its citizens.

As concerned citizen, we must continue to advocate for the government to take action on GBVF and ensure that resources are allocated towards ending this epidemic in South Africa. The fight against GBVF requires a collective effort, and we must hold our government accountable for their inaction on this critical issue.

Gender-Based Violence and Femicide have been persistent problems in South Africa, with high rates of violence against women and children causing immense suffering and loss. Despite widespread calls for action and support from various sectors of society, including advocacy groups, NGOs, and concerned citizens, the government has often been criticised for its failure to effectively address this crisis.

By not prioritising strategies and initiatives to combat GBVF in the budget speech, Minister Godongwana missed a critical opportunity to show leadership and commitment to tackling this urgent issue. Investing in resources, support services, prevention programs, and justice systems that specifically address GBVF could have a significant impact on reducing violence and protecting vulnerable individuals in South Africa.

As the Finance Minister, Godongwana plays a crucial role in allocating resources and funding to address the country's most pressing challenges. By overlooking the issue of GBVF in the budget speech, the Minister missed a chance to demonstrate a strong commitment to ending violence and promoting gender equality in South Africa. Moving forward, it is imperative for the government to prioritise GBVF prevention and response efforts in order to create a safer and more equitable society for all South Africans.

Dear The Presidency of the Republic of South Africa

The year 2024 might be a contested year where some political parties will convince South Africans why we should vote for them. It is a time for us to relook at policies that seek to develop our lives. We have no doctors, high unemployment rates and unemployment grievances, poor health services, corruption , underpayment and living below the poverty line.

When Covid came, it had us all shook and brought to light the issues that were swept under the carpet to light. As a nation we are in a broken record of demanding an end to inequality , drafting better risk reduction strategies for floods in rural towns and areas affected by floods. A better strategy for unemployment reduction and also having spaces where all voices are taken into consideration when it comes to ensuring that the issues they are faced with are resolved.

This coming State of the Nation Address( ) we call for a dynamic that is in tune with policy across governments that target poverty, corruption , unemployment and GBVF in an attempt to remove inequality and improve health policies which sees better healthcare and other services reach the rural poor.

In fact, ever since South Africa became democratic 30 years ago, we haven’t experienced an egalitarian South Africa; rather, it has been characterised with systematic racism. We have to fight for everything all the time and be second class citizens who have to deal with mental health issues. Gratefulness has been instilled in us as a result of our ancestors’ lack; therefore, we belong to the generation which accepts whatever it gets. Conversely, this generation has been made to believe that getting underpaid or exploited is okay because this is something one should expect when they appreciate small things.

We are a generation that has debt imposed on us because we want to enjoy the rainbow nation at the detriment of our mental health. We are a generation that is burdened by racist lunatics with two personalities since a black person like you must not have an opinion, you should be lucky to be employed. GBV plagues us, Mr President please take action right now.

The Independent Electoral Commission has been very active in spreading the message that " ," a slogan that encourages young people to vote in elections. (IEC). This term has proven to be useful because it speaks to the concerns of younger voters, who have long held the belief that their viewpoints are not taken into account when it comes to making political decisions or Not.

This term also speaks to the fact that it strikes a chord with voters who have the idea that their opinions are not taken into consideration. It is generally agreed upon that this should be the course of action. On the other hand, this perspective is completely incompatible with the one that underpins our political system. In recent years, the matter of the youth vote has been a significant topic of discourse, yet it appears that the youth vote is only essential when it is time to cast a vote in an election.

However, despite the fact that many politicians claim that they find the viewpoints and opinions of young people to be valuable, they fail to implement policies and programs that respond to the problems and requirements of this group. People also tend to think that young people aren't interested in politics and don't have enough education to make decisions based on correct information. This is a perspective that stems from the fact that there is a generational gap between older and younger people.

This oversimplification is not only wrong, but it also endangers the well-being of our democracy in the long run. Young people have perspectives and life experiences that are distinct and valuable, and we have a responsibility to acknowledge these things because they have the ability to make the political environment better. We shouldn't just focus on their votes during elections; rather, we should encourage their participation in ongoing political discussions and look for methods to involve them in the decision-making process. Votes aren't the only thing that matters to these people.

The vote of young people is particularly significant since these individuals will one day take leadership roles in the country. In the years to come, the decisions that are taken in politics and policy now will have a direct impact on the lives of young people. Additionally, the vote of young people has the capacity to tip the scales of power, shake up existing voting patterns, and offer innovative points of view into the process of decision-making. [Case in point:] the 2016 presidential election. It is of the utmost importance that we consistently remind young people of the power and voice they hold in order to bring about revolutionary change. It is of the utmost importance that we do not discount the magnitude of the influence and significance that young voters and their voices carry each and every day. It can be very disheartening to have the impression that the people in charge of our country are not seriously interested in hearing the views and points of view of the people they say they represent.

This is not to imply that persons in authority are required to step down simply because of their age; rather, it is to emphasise the significance of engaging the perspectives of younger generations in decision-making processes that have an effect on the future. In addition, clinging to power without consideration for the possible developments that might be made with new points of view is damaging to the development of our society in the context of the ever-shifting technological landscape. This is because new viewpoints could lead to the achievement of greater breakthroughs. It is our duty to nurture and elevate the younger generation, as well as to provide them with a forum in which they can voice their ideas and make use of their right to vote in the process of reshaping the world that they will one day take over.

It is a little bit of a conundrum that the only political figure who looks to be capable of attracting the support of the Generation Z population is a person who is older than the age that is traditionally considered to be retirement age. The words may have the flavour of a joke, but they actually represent a worrisome trend in politics, which is that it is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain the support of the younger generation.

Because of the widespread mistrust that exists about political leaders, the younger generation has been disillusioned, and they have a difficult time placing their faith in anyone. As a result, they have a difficult time placing their faith in anyone.

The scales of politics are beginning to swing in favour of politicians who are not young, which begs the question: who will represent the voices and concerns of the generation that will follow the current one? It is vital for political leaders to have a good understanding of the issues that are relevant to today's young and to design ways to actively involve them in the political process. It is also essential for political leaders to have a solid awareness of the problems that are relevant to today's youth. If this does not happen, the gap that now exists between the generations will continue to widen, and the future of our society will be in jeopardy as a result.

The fact that young voters in South Africa have such a low level of trust provides evidence that there is a significant lack of faith in the political system in that country. The disbelief expressed by young voters, who constitute a major portion of the electorate, has the potential to have a significant impact on the final results of elections. This mistrust is the result of a number of different circumstances, some of which include instances of corruption, broken promises, and a lack of openness regarding the actions of the government.

Because of the glacial pace of change and the seemingly insurmountable obstacles, young voters may also feel disillusioned with the political system of the country. A lack of trust in the political system may, in the end, result in apathy or even disengagement from the democratic process. Either of these outcomes has the potential to have far-reaching repercussions for the future of the country. In light of this, extra efforts are required to find answers to these challenges in order to rebuild faith and confidence in the democratic system, particularly among younger people. This is especially true in the context of South Africa.

When there is no genuine concern for the wellbeing of young people, the phrase "youth votes matter" comes out as meaningless and unrelated to the situation at hand. Because young people are such an important part of society, any attempt to endanger their wellbeing or safety can have devastating effects on the future of a nation. Young people are influenced by issues such as poverty and inequality, which need to be addressed for the benefit of the good of all, and it is vital that it be acknowledged that young people are impacted by these issues. If the opinions of young people are to carry any weight at all, it is imperative that this be acknowledged. As a consequence of this, the health and happiness of the youth of today should be accorded a higher level of importance in the decision-making processes.

Numerous elements, such as the current educational system, the economic policies in place, and the social challenges that young people face, have a huge impact on the lives of these individuals. Therefore, if the goal is to create a society that is more inviting and successful for everyone, then the policies that address the difficulties that are damaging the younger generation ought to be prioritised. If the votes of young people are to carry any weight at all, then serious efforts need to be made to ensure that their opinions are heard and taken into consideration in the process of decision-making. Only then will the votes of young people carry any weight at all.

The global community is currently directing its attention towards the acts of violence taking place in Palestine. Nations around the world are expressing their grief and urging for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the region. However, amidst this global outcry, it is crucial not to overlook the ongoing conflict in Sudan, which has been ravaging the country for more than 200 days. The Sudanese people find themselves tragically trapped in a conflict they did not initiate, facing unimaginable suffering and loss.

This protracted conflict in Sudan has resulted in the loss of over 9,000 innocent lives, with millions more being forcibly displaced from their homes. The scale of human tragedy is immense, as families and communities are torn apart, struggling to survive amidst the chaos and devastation. Even the capital city of Khartoum, once a vibrant hub of life and commerce, is grappling with the profound consequences of the internal warfare.

The conflict in Sudan took a significant turn on April 15 when international media redirected its focus to the nation. A power struggle erupted, pitting two former allies against each other — Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the commander-in-chief of the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF), and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, the commander of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). What initially seemed like a dispute within the nation's military ranks quickly escalated into a violent clash with severe implications for Sudan and its population.

The situation in Sudan is immensely complex, with deep-rooted political and social factors contributing to the ongoing conflict. Ethnic tensions, economic disparities, and struggles for power have fuelled the flames that continue to engulf the nation. It is a tragic irony that the very people who aspire for peace and stability find themselves subjected to the horrors of war, suffering the consequences of a conflict they did not instigate.

While the world unites to condemn the violence in Palestine, it is crucial that equal attention and support are directed towards Sudan. The Sudanese people are in desperate need of international assistance, both in terms of humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of the affected population and in diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the conflict. The United Nations and other global organisations should actively engage with local stakeholders to facilitate negotiations, promote dialogue, and work towards a sustainable peace settlement.

Invictus is dedicated to promoting the universal right to freedom for all nations. Our organisation prioritises community development and aims to empower agents at all levels of government. We strongly advocate for peace in Sudan, calling on conflicting parties to end the atrocity and prevent any more innocent lives from being lost.

By acknowledging and amplifying the plight of the Sudanese people, the international community can contribute to the collective efforts of bringing about lasting peace and stability in the region. It is only through a comprehensive approach, addressing the root causes of the conflict and fostering inclusive dialogue, that Sudan can embark on a path towards reconciliation, unity, and hope for a brighter future.

During Mental Illness Awareness Month, it is crucial to remember that individuals in rural and underprivileged settings also deserve access to essential services that aid them in healing and managing mental illness. This month serves as a reminder to prioritize mental health for all, regardless of gender or age. Often, urban areas receive more attention and resources concerning mental health, leaving those living in rural communities susceptible to lack of proper care and support. It is vital to bridge this gap by advocating for equal distribution of mental health services and resources in these underserved regions. By ensuring that men, women, and children in rural and underprivileged settings have access to well-equipped healthcare facilities, qualified professionals, and affordable treatment options, we can reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness and provide a better quality of life for all individuals. Mental Illness Awareness Month empowers us to fight for a more inclusive and accessible healthcare system that addresses the needs of every individual, regardless of their geographic location or socioeconomic status.

Women in underprivileged and rural areas frequently struggle with the problem of society as a whole ignoring and forgetting them. However, they are now facing an additional dilemma in the form of the intersectional digital divide. This divide refers to the fact that many women in rural areas are completely excluded from the potential benefits that the gig economy may offer due to a lack of access to technological resources. Without access to digital tools and internet access, these women are unable to participate in the gig economy, which can be a source of much-needed income and empowerment. Without action being taken to address this inequality, rural women will continue to be left behind, unable to take advantage of the opportunities that the digital age can offer. It is critical that we seek out solutions to bridge this gap and empower all women, regardless of their geographical location.

06/05/2023

Low-income individuals in South Africa have been negatively affected by high food prices and load shedding. In January, South Africa's food inflation reached a record high of 13.4%, the highest rate since 2009 and the highest level since 2009. Several factors, including the depreciation of the rand, the increase in the price of petrol, and the drought, contribute to this situation. The weak Rand and rising fuel prices have contributed to an increase in the price of imported products, while rising fuel prices have contributed to an increase in the price of transporting food. Despite producers' efforts to produce sufficient food to meet demand, the current drought conditions have caused food prices to rise. The rising cost of food has placed a strain on the finances of many South Africans, particularly those who are already financially ailing. The government should subsidize essential food items and provide incentives for small farmers in response to the strain of rising food costs. This should be done to lessen the impact of rising food costs.
Those living in destitution are unable to afford the necessities, resulting in malnutrition and hunger. This is directly attributable to the rising cost of sustenance. Load shedding has also wreaked havoc on businesses and residences, resulting in a loss of revenue and an increase in financial anxiety. Because of this, the most vulnerable members of society have endured the most, as they lack access to basic services such as health care, education, and clean water. The lack of accessibility to essential amenities exacerbates an already precarious situation. To protect the most vulnerable individuals and ensure that they are not abandoned, the government must act expeditiously to find solutions to the problems of rising food prices and electricity shortages. In order to prevent an exorbitant rise in food prices, the government should exert greater control over food subsidies and provide financial assistance to farmers. However, this is insufficient to address the underlying causes of the food price increase. In order to invigorate the economy, the government must take additional steps. These actions should include investments in infrastructure, simplification of the credit application procedure, and incentives for businesses to enter the agriculture sector. To reduce poverty and inequality, the government should establish social safety nets and take other steps to ensure that everyone has access to the resources necessary to satisfy their basic needs. Also, in order to reduce production costs and make food more accessible to a greater number of people, the government should encourage a more efficient use of water and electricity. In conclusion, the government should strive to enhance both its fiscal and monetary policies in order to sustain economic growth and maintain its current level of stability. These actions may be helpful to the government in terms of economic management and economic expansion. In addition, they can be used to ensure that resources are distributed fairly and that inequality is reduced in a satisfactory manner. If the government takes these measures seriously and strengthens them, it will be able to ensure that the economy continues to be healthy and that everyone will benefit from economic development.

The recent nine per cent increase in food prices implemented by one of South Africa's leading food retailers has been met with widespread dismay. For years, this company's prices have been consistently the lowest among those of its competitors, and the recent increase in those prices has strained the budgets of many South Africans who are already struggling to make ends meet. Those who are poorest and most in need will suffer the most from this price increase. This is because load-shedding has significantly worsened and food costs have escalated. Due to their reliance on these businesses for inexpensive sustenance, a large number of people are currently experiencing difficult and unsettling circumstances. We are crossing our fingers that this price increase will not be permanent and that the store will soon be able to resume charge the same prices as before.

Even more urgent is the need for measures to be taken to stop the rise in food prices, terminate load shedding, and reduce the price of electricity. Recent torrential rains in South Africa have devastated the majority of the country's provinces. In addition to causing infrastructure damage, the rainfall have caused an increase in the cost of food, an increase in the cost of electricity, and load-shedding. Due to the government's lack of involvement, many people have been left feeling helpless and dejected as a result of this double disaster. It is disheartening to consider that the people of South Africa are compelled to endure such a difficult circumstance while the government does not appear to be doing anything to help them. The government must take additional preventative measures to minimize the impact of the extreme rains and provide aid to the most affected individuals. Until this step is taken, the people of South Africa will not have a shot at rehabilitation.

To put an end to this catastrophe, it is essential to implement solutions. It is imperative that measures be taken to reduce the price of food, maintain the status quo of electricity tariffs, and ensure a reliable and effective electricity supply. Similarly, both the public and private sectors should be incentivized to invest in renewable energy sources like solar and wind power in order to reduce the strain on the national electricity system. Incentives for farmers to increase their output and maintain a constant food supply should also be a top priority.

Smallholder agriculture should be given primacy by the government in collaboration with the residents of the surrounding area. This would not only help to ensure that there is a consistent food supply for the community, but it would also generate jobs and stimulate the local economy. The federal government should also provide financial assistance to energy-generating community initiatives, such as solar panels, wind turbines, and biogas facilities. This will simultaneously diminish the significance of the national grid and provide consumers with a more reliable source of electricity. By ensuring that communities have adequate energy production and food production, the government can help alleviate current concerns regarding food and load-shedding. Because renewable energy sources are more environmentally friendly than conventional energy sources, this would also help to reduce environmental damage caused by energy production.

Today is , a day to honor the struggles of transgender people and raise awareness about their right to be treated with respect. Despite this, countries such as Uganda still criminalise homosexuality and promote discrimination, denying the community access to healthcare and social rights. It is essential that countries create a more tolerant society where everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, has access to healthcare and can live freely.

The digital gap in rural areas needs to be bridged in order to ensure that all people, regardless of where they live, have access to the same opportunities. With access to the internet, rural dwellers can gain access to educational resources, access to health services, and access to jobs and other economic opportunities. This can help break the cycle of poverty and create a more equitable society. Additionally, bridging the digital gap in rural areas can help to create a more connected world, allowing for the sharing of ideas and knowledge that can help to improve the lives of people everywhere. By bridging the digital gap in rural areas, we can ensure that everyone has access to the same resources and opportunities, regardless of where they live.
