The GBVF Team and volunteers visited Jeppe High Preparatory School for a Foundation Phase outreach and awareness presentation. During the session, the social worker used the character Thandi and Zack to engage the learners in an age-appropriate and interactive manner. The presentation focused on teaching children about safe and unsafe body touches, appropriate boundaries, and the importance of not keeping unsafe secrets. The learners also participated in educational songs and activities to reinforce the key safety messages in a fun and engaging way.

Teacher suspended for s*xual harassment

​ Afrika, 18 August 2026 - A teacher at Minerva school in Alexandra, Johannesburg accused of inappropriate conduct with learners has been suspended. Teddy Bear Clinic is working to provide counselling and support to affected pupils. The clinic is also cooperating with police as investigations continue.

As gang violence continues in Westbury, Johannesburg, the Gauteng Education Department has expressed its concern about how teachers and learners are affected.

The Teddy Bear Foundation, which forms part of the Department’s rapid response support mechanisms, provides trauma debriefing and child-protection support to affected learners, staff and families.

TBF's Court Preparation and Support programme was established in June 1997 and provides children and parents with skills, emotional support, and legal knowledge in preparation for their appearance in court.
