🏦 Own Your Bank: Building Wealth Together! πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦
Hello Ithemba Labantu community! We have some incredibly exciting news to share that could change the way we think about money and build generational wealth.
It is official: Ithemba Labantu Hope Network is now the official common bond for the Roots Financial Services Cooperative (Roots FSC)! This is a massive step toward creating our very own community bankβ€”one that is owned and controlled by you.
πŸ’‘ What is Roots FSC?
Roots FSC is a cooperative financial institution. Unlike a typical bank, the people who use the services are the owners. We are currently in Phase 1 (Pre-registration), which means you have the chance to get in on the ground floor as a founding member.
πŸš€ Why Join?
This isn't just about banking; it’s about the power of us.
* True Democracy: Every shareholder gets one vote, regardless of how many shares they own.
* Dividend Earnings: Your commitment shares turn into real dividend-sharing shares once we are fully registered.
* Collective Power: By banking together, we can turn small regular contributions into millions of Rands to fund businesses, create jobs, and keep wealth within our community.
πŸ“ How to Become a Founding Member
Joining is as easy as one-two:
* Join the Common Bond: You must be a member of the Ithemba Labantu Hope Network.
* Seniors & Students: R50 (one-time fee)
* All Other Members: R200 (one-time fee)
* Purchase Your Shares: Secure your founder's ticket!
* Start with just R500 for 10 shares, or buy more if you’d like.
🎯 Our Goal
We are looking for 200 founding members to raise R100,000 in capital. This will allow us to meet the requirements of the Prudential Authority and the Reserve Bank to unlock our borrowing license. Once we hit this target, you can make deposits and take out loans from your own bank!
Are you ready to own your bank? This invitation is open to everyoneβ€”families, teachers, taxi groups, churches, sports teams, and non-profits.
Don’t wait! Claim your stake in our community's future today.

As a family we travelled to Myanmar to try and help find our son and brother Cowan which we thought that we needed to be there..

Funds were raised through backabuddy and the local community that assisted us with our flights, visas and accomodation.

We left for Myanmar on the 12th April 2025. When we were trying to book out tickets and visas, the embassy refused to give us the visa, saying that it was temporary suspended. I sent an email and pleaded with them and told them my story, little did i know that 2 days before we were meant to travel that i received a call from the Myanmar embassy in pretoria and the gentleman could hardly speak english but told me that he saw my email and my story and was going to speak to his superior to help us get the visa.

He called me on the evening of the 10th and asked if we could be in pretoria the next morning and he would issue our visas.

It was like God had sent him to us and that he was there to help us.

We immediately booked out dur-jnb tickets and flew first thing in the morning to pretoria and got our visas issued that morning.

The next morning we flew out to Myanmar. It was a long, stressful flight because we did not know what to expect. We got to Myanmar the Saturday morning and the principal picked us up from the airport.

We checked into our hotel and made arrangements to go see the place where Cowan lived.

No one and nothing could prepare us for what we were about to see. It was scary, heartbreaking and just something no parent or family should see.

The principal was very accomodating and took us to all the hospitals and the mortuaries and explained to us that if any foreigner was brought to either places that he would be notified.

We stayed in Myanmar for 2 weeks looking and searching and speaking to his friends that he knew and worked with and asking for help from just about anyone.

Eventually we had to return home, which was most traumatizing, knowing that we were in Myanmar and that we are coming home without our son.

The principal kept us updated every single day after we arrived. He was the only one that kept us updated with the staus of Cowan's situation, not once did the SA embassy notify me of any update.

I was also advised by the principal that the Myanmar authorities had retrieved a remains and that they needed us to forward DNA testing of my husband and mine to them, which we complied.

To date we have no information, as to whether that remains belongs to my son, because now DIRCO has now advised that it is our prerogative to do comparative analysis between the remains and our DNA.
