We held our APRA 2nd-Saturday Community Day on 8 June.

We had two Teams of 4 workers each equipped with uniforms, bibs, bakkies, trailers, tools, task-lists for each section of Auckland Park (Auckland Park north & south of Kingsway Rd) and hosted/Head-quartered our event at our long-time friends and community-collaborators Piza-e-Vino.

The Pikitup Team had the skip timeously delivered to the agreed upon, central area in Apark on Friday so we were all ready to go. Both APRA Teams, with their task-lists ready from Inspections over the previous week, worked through all like champions, clearing litter, road hazards, unapproved signboards, trimming bushes and trees blocking road ways and / or pedestrian walking spaces and more. Mpho, our BlueZones/Urban Management Facilitator keeping an eye/ear for any resident members in need of assistance be it rubble removal or other our team was ready and able sorting as many requests as possible.

Many residents came along to the Piza e Vino HQ where APRA ExCo members were stationed all day long and hosted coffees, questions, drinks, lunch, discussions about all manner of things from Security to Bylaw Enforcement to how to Donate to how to join Committees. It was a hugely successful day by all measures.

To those residents that popped in to see APRA ExCo at Piza-e-Vino as well as those who made donations to assist us with getting our work done we would like to extend a BIG THANK YOU!!! Without our members, donors, sponsors and teams none of this would be possible.

Spokesperson Virgil James says it is a contravention of the city’s outdoor advertising by-laws not to remove the posters.

“All political parties participated and displayed their posters during the election under the provision of Section 28 of the City of Johannesburg’s Outdoor Advertising By-law, which states that any poster must be removed by the person displaying it within 14 days after the conclusion of the election. Failing which, the council shall within 14 days of the conclusion of the election notify the relevant party to remove the posters within a time period specified, failing which, the council may remove the posters itself against a prescribed fee of R500 per poster payable by the relevant party.”

https://www.sabcnews.com/sabcnews/city-of-joburg-to-fine-parties-for-unremoved-elections-posters/ FYI, the above so we can all be informed

In our "little neck of the woods" (Auckland Park) we will begin reporting to CoJ on 12 June, then Escalate a week or so later, then finally give COJ a final week or so to act... then take them down ourselves starting on 2 or 3 July.

The city says all posters must be removed within 14 days after the elections.
