Happy Africa Day 🌍 🌟

As Africans, we carry stories of struggle and triumph, of communities that continue to rise, create, and lead despite challenges. From our youth shaping new futures to communities driving change at the grassroots level, Africa's strength has always been its people.

May we continue to imagine boldly, collaborate across borders, and work toward an Africa that is inclusive, peaceful, prosperous, and driven by its own vision and potential.

| From 20–24 April, we joined the Data for Governance Alliance - Africa and Afrobarometer in Accra for a continental dialogue bringing together CSOs, African Union institutions, researchers, and policymakers to advance conversations and policy recommendations on democracy, human rights, and good governance.

Represented by our Engagement Manager, Lerato Maloka, Democracy Works Foundation shared progress from our ongoing collaboration with the African Union institutions, CSOs and multilateral platforms.

📍 We highlighted key milestones from our work in The Charter Project Africa, our collaboration with the Pan-African Parliament and the PAP CSO Liaison Office on the recently held Cool Politics Café, and our G20 engagements chairing the F20 Foundations Platform.

🤝 We're grateful for the opportunity to contribute to these important conversations shaping the future of governance on the continent.

| On 13 April 2026, our Research Manager, Yasmin Shapurjee, participated as a panellist at the "Citizens' Perception on Corruption" briefing organised by the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) and , hosted at the Centre for Human Rights.

💡 Drawing on insights from the Protecting and Promoting Whistleblowing (PPW) project, Yasmin emphasised a critical truth: whistleblowing is not failing because people lack courage; it is failing because systems make speaking out unsafe!

📍 Safeguarding whistleblowers is essential to strengthening democratic integrity and rebuilding public trust.

We extend our thanks to Afrobarometer, Institute for Justice and Reconciliation, and the Centre for Human Rights for the invitation and for convening and sharing this important data.
