Gender-based violence (GBV) encompasses various forms of abuse, including emotional abuse, which can manifest as verbal attacks, manipulation, or control that undermines the victim's sense of self-worth and independence.

This type of abuse often involves humiliation, where the victim is degraded or belittled, leading to feelings of shame and inadequacy.

Additionally, confinement or isolation may be used as a tactic to exert power and control over the victim, limiting their freedom and social interactions. Intimidation and threats are also common in GBV, creating a climate of fear and insecurity for the victim. Social exclusion, such as ostracizing the victim from their support networks, further exacerbates their vulnerability.

It is important to recognize these forms of GBV and work towards creating a society free from such abuses through education, advocacy, and support for survivors.

On International Boy Child Day, we have a unique opportunity to shape the next generation of leaders and change-makers. By instilling the values of respect, equality, and empathy in our boys, we can empower them to become champions of positive change. Let’s raise boys who reject Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, and instead, stand up for the rights and dignity of all individuals. Together, let’s raise a generation of boys who will challenge harmful gender stereotypes, support survivors of GBVF, and drive progress towards a world where all individuals can thrive.
