A Legacy of Knowledge, Service and Sadaqah Jariyah

There are journeys that inspire, and then there are journeys that leave a legacy for generations to come.

Apa Fatima Asikimo is a remarkable example of what can happen when a woman dedicates her life to seeking the pleasure of Allah through knowledge, sincerity and service.

Her beautiful journey began as a student at Madressah Ihya Uloom ud Deen, where she devoted herself to studying the sacred sciences of Islam. Through years of perseverance, sacrifice and dedication, she successfully graduated in 2005 from the Aalimah Course, equipping herself with the knowledge needed to serve her Deen and community.

But for Apa Fatima, graduation was not the end of her journey—it was only the beginning.
She returned to the very same Madressah where she had once sat as a student and spent 13 years teaching, nurturing young hearts, educating future generations and planting the seeds of Islamic knowledge that continue to flourish today.

Her passion for Islam did not stop within the classroom walls.
Today, she continues to serve her community by operating an Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre in Poortjie, where she helps shape the lives of young children with love, compassion and strong Islamic values. Alongside this noble work, she teaches 50 ladies at her Madressah twice every week, ensuring that women in her community have the opportunity to learn, grow and strengthen their relationship with Allah.

Her life reminds us that true success is not measured by worldly achievements, but by the lives we touch through knowledge, kindness and sincere service.
Every lesson she teaches, every child she nurtures and every woman she inspires becomes a continuous reward—a Sadaqah Jariyah that will, by the permission of Allah, continue long after us.

As Al Ihya Foundation distributed food hampers in Poortjie, it was a privilege to visit a community enriched by dedicated servants of Islam like Apa Fatima. While we delivered food to nourish families, she continues to nourish hearts and souls with the light of Islamic knowledge.

May Allah ﷻ reward Apa Fatima Asikimo abundantly for her unwavering dedication, accept every effort she has made in the path of Deen, bless her ECD centre, increase the barakah in her teaching, and make every student she inspires a means of ongoing reward for her in this life and the Hereafter.

Leave a Lasting Legacy – Learn, Teach and Propagate Islam
One of the greatest forms of Sadaqah Jariyah (continuous charity) is to share beneficial knowledge that continues to guide others long after we are gone. Every lesson taught, every Qur'an recited, every heart inspired, and every life transformed becomes a reward that continues to grow by the permission of Allah.

Today, as Al Ihya Foundation distributed food hampers to families in need, we were reminded that our mission extends far beyond providing food. While we strive to relieve hunger, we also strive to nourish hearts with the beauty, compassion and guidance of Islam.

One of our greatest inspirations is our beloved reverted sister, Apa Suraya Mokhatla.
At the age of 48, she embarked on a remarkable journey of seeking knowledge, she travelled all the way from Orange Farm (20km) to Madressah Ihya Uloom ud Deen in Ennerdale determined to learn the Qur'an and Islamic Studies. Despite the distance and the challenges, she remained steadfast, proving that you are never too old to learn and grow closer to Allah.

After completing her studies, Apa Suraya did not keep this precious knowledge to herself. She opened the doors of her own home and began teaching 16 ladies in her community. Today, at the age of 60, she continues this beautiful mission with unwavering dedication, and her class has grown to 40 ladies who gather regularly to learn about Islam.

Her story reminds us that one sincere effort can change countless lives.
At Al Ihya Foundation, we believe that our responsibility does not end when someone embraces Islam. Welcoming our reverted sisters into the fold of Islam is only the beginning of their journey. We must continue walking alongside them, supporting them, educating them, encouraging them, and surrounding them with love, compassion and sincere sisterhood so that they experience the true beauty and mercy of Islam.
Together, we can build stronger communities through education, kindness and continuous support.

May Allah reward every donor, volunteer, teacher and supporter who makes these programmes possible. Your generosity is helping to feed families, educate communities and inspire future generations.
