Well I just became a vegetarian..π goodbye bacon.π₯ππ
When we first got chickens, for breeding meat, I quickly became aware of the society they create within themselves. Their specific language and even their compassion. The care our Buffalo (main rooster) shows to his ladies and his children, really got me thinking.
I've seen him watch me set traps, his beady eyes scrutinizing my every move. Only to warn the other chickens with a series of unusual sounds and make them turn away from delicious treats under the cage, mid run. I've seen him pick the ants off of his dying baby instead of eating it. I've seen him chastise pullets and roos for their bullying. I've seen him build nests and teach his ladies to sit by getting on the eggs and purring until they join him.
And no, I do not think I personify animals. I observe and take notes of all their sounds and movements. If these are not akin to us, then what even are we? Better than them because we have "a brain".
My theory is that most humans have become so arrogant and ignorant that we didn't even take the time to learn Nature's language. Just as we don't even learn each other's...
I see our family continuing to eat meat only from absolutely necessary death at the end of a good life in our food forest. Sure, nothings gonna taste the same, but dignity in life should. I think we've all become so used to the tortured food we eat that we've forgotten they're alive too.
