We are proud to celebrate PYMA Co-Founder and Executive Director, Bokang Mokoena, for being recognised among the Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans in the Civil Society category.

This recognition represents more than an individual achievement. It reflects over a decade of building pathways for young people and communities to thrive.

Since 2014, we have been working at the intersection of education, youth development and community transformation — supporting children, strengthening early learning, creating opportunities for young people, and investing in the people and systems that enable communities to thrive.

This milestone reminds us that meaningful change is built over time, through partnerships, action and a belief in the potential that exists within every community.

We celebrate Bokang and, more importantly, the collective journey behind this recognition.

We're proud to be featured in the Daily Maverick

In partnership with The Learning Trust we recently welcomed the Presidential Employment Stimulus team to Phakamani Young Minds Academy to demonstrate how the Social Employment Fund is creating jobs while strengthening communities.

The article highlights our work across Soweto, where we train and place Literacy Champions in Early Childhood Development centres. As they work towards a Level 4 ECD qualification, they're helping young children build the literacy foundations they need to thrive.

This is a reminder that when we invest in young people, we create lasting change for children, families, and communities.

Masterclass Spotlight | Are You Ready for the World of Work?

A qualification may open the door, but work readiness is what helps you walk through it with confidence.

At , Mzwandile Msimanga, representing the The Trevor Noah Foundation, opened the session by encouraging young people to turn challenges into opportunities, align their choices with their unique talents and strengths and develop a practical plan for their future through the inspiring "Future Me" activity.

Building on this foundation,FNB South Africa equipped participants with practical tools for the world of work, covering CV writing, interview preparation, personal branding, and setting clear career goals.

This masterclass gave young people the confidence and skills to stand out in an increasingly competitive job market. They discovered that employability is not just about having a qualification; it's about continuously building the skills, confidence and professionalism that employers value.

Over 200 young people. One shared commitment to expanding opportunity.

In partnership with FNB and Olager Consulting, we hosted a Youth Entrepreneurship Dialogue, bringing together more than 200 young people to engage with entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic opportunity.

Youth unemployment cannot be addressed by one organisation or one sector alone. It requires collaboration between business, civil society and communities to create pathways for young people to access opportunities, build businesses, and contribute to local economic growth.

This dialogue demonstrated the value of cross-sector collaboration in strengthening the entrepreneurship ecosystem. By connecting young people with leaders, practical insights, and opportunities, we are investing in the next generation of entrepreneurs and community builders.

Together, we are building an ecosystem where young people can thrive.

This we were honoured to welcome the British Council team into the heart of our work.

They experienced first-hand how our programmes work together to create lasting impact—from supporting tutoring sessions, helping develop our food garden and participating in life skills and sport activities with our learners.

A very special shout-out to Forwardzone for generously providing meals for the 116 children who attended.

Mandela Day reminds us that meaningful change is built through collective action. Together, we continue to create opportunities, inspire hope, and invest in the next generation.

We believe that literacy is more than the ability to read—it is the foundation of confidence, opportunity, and lifelong learning. Every literacy journey begins at home.

We are honoured to have partnered with Joburg City Library in hosting the "Reading Starts at Home" Literacy Workshop, with Lindani Sikhakhane delivering a powerful keynote that reminded us of the vital role families, caregivers, communities, and public libraries play in raising a generation of readers.

When we read to a child, we do more than tell a story—we spark imagination, build confidence, strengthen family bonds, and open doors to a future filled with possibility.

Together, we can create communities where every child has the opportunity to discover the joy of reading and the power of knowledge.
