Sue Lubbe & Friends

Sue Lubbe & Friends Our motto: We sometimes feel that what we do is but a drop in the ocean, but the ocean would be less full with each missing drop. 1. "Pay it forward!"

3.

Feeding

Throughout the year, we run feeding schemes and assist kitchens. It is with the help of large retailers as well as surrounding communities that we are able to continuously feed those in need. In May we have a "STAY WARM DAY IN MAY" Through networking we are able to provide soup, bread and goodies to under-privileged schools throughout Johannesburg. We started by feeding 1000 people and in

2012 we are aiming for 50,000 people. 2011 we achieved 36,000 so it is very challenging. In June we have our CUP OF SOUP FOR THE HOMELESS project: We appeal to the general public and large retailers for take-away cups and soup. We encourage the general public to participate in the project individually, however, as Sue Lubbe and Friends we distribute large amounts of soup to the homeless. Through October, November and December we prepare for Christmas: This involves Christmas parties at hospitals, old age homes, special needs homes, schools and other under-privileged places. We also do our STACK-A-PLATE to help the under-privileged get through the festive season. Throughout this time, we collect non-perishable foods as well as gifts and toys.

2. Clothing

In January we provide uniforms and stationery to under-privileged school children. This brings happiness and a sense that someone cares, into a pupils life where there is very little. We collect clothing throughout the year. In July we do a BLANKET DRIVE: This is mostly for the homeless. But we also go out to old age homes where we give them new blankets and if they have old ones not in use - we take the old ones back and send to SPCA 's etc. In August we encourage the general public to clear out and donate their winter clothes so that we can distribute to the needy and people clear our excess clothing that they normally would not wear again. Exposing unfair treatment

This falls mostly in the category of human rights and ranges from bullying in schools to more sensitive issues - we report bad treatments in hospitals and so much more.

4. Fighting a battle against AIDS

We encourage people to know their status, help them find appropriate counselling and provide aid to homes that work with these kinds of issues.

5. Cleaning up, repairing and restoring health care facilities

A few major projects include renovating old age homes, painting children’s wards and providing new beds and linen in hospitals. 2011-12 saw us revamping the Jasmine House Old age home and will be moving on soon to homes for the disabled that we want to look at revamping.

6. Educating children and adults

One aspect of education is the restoration of education facilities, where on the other hand, we teach the under-privileged that even though they are in need of receiving, it is very important for them to give back. We have a floating trophy that we award to schools that demonstrate this philosophy. Even under-privileged people deserve to experience life beyond the bare necessities. Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Spring Day and other such days, give us an opportunity to spoil them a little. All this and more is achieved with assistance from our Trustees, friends, large and small businesses, other charity organizations, churches and the general public. We are fortunate that the press and radio stations give us opportunities to appeal. Only with the help and generosity of everyone can we achieve all this.
