Tuesday, 29 September, was a day to remember for the learners of Oceanview Primary School in Chatsworth, Durban.
Thanks to Durban City Football Club, winners of the 2026 Nedbank Cup, the school had been selected to receive a world-class multipurpose sports court, implemented by The Sports Trust on behalf of Nedbank. This incredible initiative demonstrates how the Nedbank Cup can create a lasting legacy far beyond the football pitch — taking the excitement of professional football directly into communities and creating opportunities for young people to play, develop their skills, dream bigger and reach their full potential.

From the triumph of Durban City FC to the dreams of the next generation at Oceanview Primary School, this is what sport is all about: creating opportunities, inspiring communities and changing lives.

The game has been won on the pitch. Now the legacy lives on in the community.

As South Africa commemorates 50 years since the historic Soweto Uprising of 16 June 1976, Youth Month 2026 serves as a powerful reminder of the courage, resilience and determination of young people who stood up for change.

In celebration of this milestone, Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie officially handed over a newly developed multipurpose sports court at Noordgesig Secondary School in Soweto. The project, implemented by The Sports Trust, reflects a continued commitment to creating safe spaces where young people can develop their talents, build confidence and embrace the power of sport.

The new facility represents more than just a court — it is a platform for opportunity, community upliftment and youth development, connecting the legacy of the past with the aspirations of future generations.

From the streets of Soweto in 1976 to the champions of tomorrow — investing in youth remains an investment in South Africa’s future. 🇿🇦🏀⚽
