On the 19th of May, the Youth Programme at SAIIA and CHOICE for Youth and Sexuality hosted the Dutch Youth Ambassador for SRHR, Gender, and Bodily Autonomy, Lune de Rijck, for a consultation with our Youth Policy Committee. The consultation explored the theme of LGBTQIA+ inclusion and rights in academic spaces. Our Youth Policy Committee members from the University of Pretoria, the University of Johannesburg, and the University of the Witwatersrand shared their experiences and recommendations, which the Youth Ambassador will share with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and integrate into the insights at the 62nd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Thank you to the Advocacy Advisor at CHOICE for Youth and Sexuality, Madelief Browcheler, for this insightful collaboration and thank you to the YASRHR Lune de Rijck for your incredible contribution.✨

YPC & SA YGAP Tour Recap: On Saturday,
13th of September, we hosted our last YPC Workshop and SA YGAP Roadshow for the year and made our last stop at Sol Plaatjie University in the Northern Cape 🗺️🚗.

Our workshop was kickstarted with welcome remarks by Rendani Tsh*tangano .j , a KAS-SAIIA Scholar ✨ and proceeded to a reflection session on the YPC - focusing on how the it was formed, the shape its taken over the years and how we can continue to grow our network across the South Africa 🇿🇦 and to the world 🌎📈.

We then had Tyla Nxumalo , an Alumni of the YPC and the Youth Programme Intern, share her journey in the YPC and how it has shaped her✨.

The second half of our session focused on the SA YGAP, a youth-led Gender action plan that was created by the YPC 📃🩷🏳️‍🌈. It highlighted the intersections of Gender and actionable recommendations for a more gender-inclusive South Africa for young people.

The students participated in a sensory activity where they shared their awareness on gender issues in their community, how close the issues are to them, how they feel about them and what they think should be done. A member from each pillar (group) then reflected to the floor on what they had discussed as a pillar. 🩷🏳️‍🌈

Thank you Northern Cape for being so good to us. We look forward to participating in more impactful engagements!
