World YWCAToday we proudly celebrate World YWCA Day under the theme “Forward Together.” 🌍✨

In the spirit of unity and collective impact, we identified a need within our local school community and took action. We donated sanitary products and essential hygiene items to support learners in maintaining their dignity, health, and confidence.

Far too many young people miss out on opportunities simply because they lack access to basic hygiene necessities. With the support of stakeholders we can help change that and ensure every learner feels empowered to show up fully and confidently. 🌱

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our sponsors and donors who made this initiative possible. Your generosity continues to inspire hope and create meaningful change in young lives.

Together, we move forward. 💙

On the 21st of March, we hosted a meaningful engagement with 50 beneficiaries, creating a safe and reflective space for dialogue under the theme: “Centering Marginalized Voices: Reclaiming Human Rights through Feminist Lenses.” ✊🏽🌍✨

The session focused on understanding what human rights are while unpacking key concepts such as feminism, marginalization, and intersectionality. We reflected on how reclaiming our human rights begins with recognizing that what is written in the does not always translate into the lived realities many people experience every day.
In a country with one of the world’s most progressive constitutions, it remains essential that marginalized voices are heard directly rather than relying only on institutions to speak on their behalf. Through open discussion, participants courageously reflected on how their own rights have been violated and also examined ways we may consciously or unconsciously violate the rights of others.

These conversations reminded us that advancing human rights requires listening, accountability, empathy, and collective action 🤝💬

Love in Action at YWCA This Valentine’s Day! ✨❤️
This Valentine’s Day, YWCA celebrated more than just romance — we celebrated self-love, sisterhood, empowerment, and community. 💐💕
Our space was filled with laughter, meaningful conversations, and moments of reflection as women and young girls came together to honour the power of love in all its beautiful forms. From affirmations and shared stories to small tokens of appreciation, the day reminded us that love begins within and grows stronger when we uplift one another.
At YWCA, we believe love looks like: 💜 Supporting one another
💜 Creating safe spaces
💜 Empowering young women
💜 Standing together in solidarity
Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the day so special. Let’s continue to spread love, kindness, and strength — not only on Valentine’s Day, but every single day. 🌸

This week, the YWCA had the joy of giving back to our community through our Christmas Hamper Giveaway for our beloved Soup Kitchen beneficiaries. ❤️
As the year comes to a close, we wanted to make sure that every family we serve feels supported, seen, and cared for. Each hamper was filled with essential food items and festive treats to help bring comfort and hope during the holiday season.
Seeing the smiles, the gratitude, and the sense of community reminded us why we do this work. 💛
A huge thank you to our volunteers, partners, and everyone who contributed — your generosity made this possible.
Let’s continue to uplift one another, not just during the holidays, but every day. 🌟

On 21 November, South Africa came to a powerful standstill in the name of justice and life. The Purple Movement, led by Women for Change, wasn’t a march — it was a shutdown: people withdrew from paid and unpaid work, stopped spending, and wore black in mourning and resistance

At 12:00, thousands lay down in a 15-minute silent standstill — one minute for every woman killed daily in our country.

This protest wasn’t just symbolic. The demand is urgent: declare gender-based violence and femicide a national disaster, so the government finally gives it the priority and resources it needs.

It’s not about politics. It’s about survival. Every purple profile picture, every silent second, every voice was a reminder — our lives matter, and we are done waiting.

The YWCA of South Africa stands in solidarity with the women and children of South Africa and says NO to GBV and Femicide.💜🖤💜🖤💜

Celebrating our Heritage our Culture and our Diversity. With the 24th of September marking Heritage Day, the Youth of YWCA Gauteng Region flaunted their beautiful and diverse cultural attires.

Under the theme:
How do we break the stereotype of society in terms of gender roles, diversity, and inclusivity, we got to hear the youth really give their honest opinions, and holding back was not an option.

From conversations around: ●Education and awareness
●Challenging biased language and behaviors
●Policies and Practices
● And inclusive spaces

With the one topic which has been on every South Africans mind lately, the new ruling that permits the husband to take the wife's surname(which, of course, sparked up a debate😅)

The session was indeed one for the books, and we look forward to many more.
❤️🧡💛💚💙🖤🤍

The 09th of August annually marks National Women's Day in South Africa, and it commemorates the 1956 Women’s March to the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
On that day, more than 20,000 women of all races protested against the apartheid government’s pass laws, which required Black South Africans to carry “pass books” restricting their movement.

Today, Women’s Day honours the courage, resilience, and contribution of women in shaping a democratic South Africa, and it’s a reminder of the ongoing fight for gender equality, safety, and social justice.

As the YWCA, we held a "For Women, by Women dialogue under the theme DISSECTING WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A WOMAN. we covered topics, which include:
• The societal expectations vs. lived experiences.
• Intersectionality: race, class, culture, and womanhood.
• Challenges and victories across life stages.

The 18th of July annualy marks the birthday of Dr Nelson Mandela, who paved the way to a free and democratic South Africa, where we all have equal opportunities.
Mandela Day is not just a celebration - it’s a call to action where people are encouraged to spend 67 minutes doing something positive for their communities, in the spirit of giving back. The YWCA of South Africa (Gauteng Region) showed up and contributed immensely to the cause.

“It is in your hands to create a better world for all who live in it.” - Nelson Mandela
