🌍 𝐀 𝐦𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬.

The Multiply Possibility high-level event at the UN General Assembly in New York, convened by Italy, Nigeria, and the Global Partnership for Education(GPE), mobilised $3.5 billion in international financing for education.

Key headlines:

💰 $2.1 billion in confirmed and anticipated pledges to GPE from sovereign and private donors.

🤝 $1.4 billion in initial co-financing from development finance institutions, philanthropic organisations, and private sector partners.

📚 $471 billion in domestic education financing commitments from GPE partner countries, representing a 32% increase in spending by 2030.

These commitments put GPE on course to help improve education for 750 million children by 2030. And the urgency could not be greater. 270 million children and young people remain out of school.

This is a strong foundation, but it is not the finish line. More pledges are expected in the months ahead, and sustained advocacy will be critical to turning this momentum into lasting change.

🌍📚 Investing in education means investing in our shared future.

This week in New York, the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) is bringing together global leaders and partners on the sidelines of to mobilise greater investment and accelerate the transformation of systems worldwide.

With GPE seeking to mobilise at least US$5 billion to support education across 96 countries, these high-level discussions come at a critical moment for global education financing. Recent commitments of US$400 million from private sector and foundation partners demonstrate growing momentum, but much more remains to be done.

GCE’s Phumza Luthango is participating in the events, joining education partners and advocates in calling for stronger political commitment and sustainable financing so that every child, young person, and adult can realise their right to quality education.

Education cannot wait. Governments and partners must turn commitments into action and ensure education receives the financing it urgently needs.

That was the challenge at the Abuja High-Level Dialogue on Education Financing, where education advocates, young people, civil society, and partners explored how fair taxation, debt relief, stronger public budgets, and accountability can unlock the right to education.
