GNoR BIG members,

The batting season has commenced and our first outing will be on the weekend of 6 - 8th November, when we will visit the bushveld of Grootgeluk Bush Camp.

Why we like it there:
Accommodation is varied, comfortable and not too expensive, including the option to camp.
It is not too far, about 2.5 hours from Jhb, outside the town of Mookgophong.
There is a nice variety of bats to be found - you can expect to see between four to six different species.
Good for bird life and other beasties.
If you have never attended one of our field trips this is a good one to start for all of the above reasons.
Newer and inexperienced members will be able to get a good introduction to bat surveying and identification.
(But the old hands are always welcome too).

URGENTLY Calling On ALL Nature Loving Volunteers

The Baby Bat Season has begun - We have been blessed with our first beautiful little Yellow House Bat pup this week.

We are calling on all who are willing and able to assist us through pup season to come forward and register (free) as a volunteer helper to these beautiful souls in one way or the other.

The time that goes into taking care of newborn pups as well as injured bats is time consuming, so the more hands we can spread around what is needed to be done, the better the results.

No matter how much time you have to spare, we would be most grateful to accept and would accommodate to suit you.

Until you have tried helping in any rescue situation, some of which could leave you devastated, you will never know the feeling of heartfelt success.
