Keep it spicy, keep the bugs away! 🌶️

Got beetles or pesky garden bugs making a meal out of your hard work? EduPlant learners know just how to make a super simple, 100% natural chilli spray to keep them at bay. It’s cheap, incredibly effective, and completely chemical-free!

Here is how you can make a batch at home today:

Step 1: Blend a handful of fresh chillies with 1 litre of water.
Step 2: Let the mixture steep overnight to get maximum heat.
Step 3: Strain the liquid, then add 3–4 drops of dish soap (this helps it stick to the leaves!).
Step 4: Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and apply it directly to your plants.

💡 Don't have fresh chillies on hand? You can swap them out for chilli powder or dried chilli flakes.

The future belongs to those who grow it. 🌍✊

This 2026, South Africa’s youth are rewriting the narrative.

In 1976, students fought for their education. Today, the EduPlant generation is taking that legacy into the soil to build true independence.

Skills in agriculture turns formative years into a launchpad for financial independence and active citizenship.

When school and community join forces, we create sustainable food security and foster a deeper connection to the land.

Take a close look at this inspiring scene from the EduPlant garden at Chuchekani Primary School in Phalaborwa. What makes this garden truly special is who tends it.

It’s not only the learners learning vital agricultural skills. It’s also a powerful partnership with the community. Here, mothers, grandmothers, and community leaders work alongside the learners.

POV: Your school garden wins the provincial award for the Free State at the EduPlant Finals Competition AND THEN goes on to take third place at the National School Nutrition Programme! 🏆🌱

That’s exactly what Dr Mngoma Public School just did! These incredible learners worked tirelessly to earn their spot in the finals, and all that dirt under their fingernails truly paid off.

They’ve already reinvested their prize money into tools, seeds, garden covers, and compost to keep their beautiful garden thriving for seasons to come.

A massive thank you to EduPlant Funding partner Tiger Brands for their continued support in nurturing these learners to become real-world food security heroes and stewards of the Earth!

We are bursting with pride for Segwaneng Primary School, an amazing school from our previous EduPlant cycle! One of their very own brilliant students, Palesa Mosegedi, has been named the national winner of the WESSA Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa's Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) South Africa Competition in the Photo category! 🏆🎉

Palesa’s submission was recognised for its creativity, passion, and powerful environmental message. Now, her winning entry is officially heading to the international YRE competition to represent South Africa on the global stage!✨

Our EduPlant learners continue to show that they are the eco-leaders of tomorrow.

A massive thank you to our sponsor Tiger Brands for their continued investment in nurturing young minds and empowering the next generation of environmental champions.

Please join us in wishing Palesa the absolute best of luck in the international round! Let's show her some love in the comments!

What does a 3rd place win look like? For Toronto primary school , it looks like a garden revolution.

We’re still celebrating the school’s incredible 3rd-place finish at the 2025 EduPlant National Greening Competition.

They have transformed their R10 000 prize into high-quality tools like rakes, forks, hoes, brush cutters and equipment to make their garden more productive than ever.

By investing in soil aeration as well as safety gear, these learners are working smarter to ensure a maximum harvest.

A huge thanks to EduPlant funding partner Tiger Brands and implementation partner Food & Trees for Africa for making these green dreams a reality!

Meet Bharathi Tugh, the powerhouse teacher who spent three decades proving that a patch of soil can change the trajectory of a child’s life. In a time when food prices are soaring, her work with EduPlant is turning South African schools into hubs of nutrition, sustainability, and hands-on learning.

"It’s not an extracurricular activity anymore. It’s co-curricular."
