[PETITION]: Build schools in Mzimkhulu RDPs in Mpumalanga

The community of Mzimkhulu is calling on the Mpumalanga Department of Education to prioritise the construction of two schools (one primary and one secondary) in their community located in the Thembisile Hani Local Municipality.

Currently, there are no schools in the area, so children have to travel far to learn. Even then, the schools they go to are also not big enough to accommodate them. Support their call by signing the petition calling on the Mpumalanga Education Department to build schools in their community. [SAY NO TO HATE & VIOLENCE]: The crisis has a source, and it isn't vulnerable people.

When workers and poor people turn against each other, nothing gets fixed.

❗️No jobs are created.
❗️No services improve.
❗️No corruption is punished.

Instead, communities become divided, while those responsible escape accountability!

The people who are responsible are those with power: corrupt politicians, profiteers, big business, and leaders who have failed our communities for decades.

Xenophobic and vigilante violence attacks threaten all of us. Right now, riots and mobs are roaming the streets β€’ South Africans without documents are caught in the cross-fire β€’ Dark-skinned people of all nationalities are being targeted β€’ Tribalism, chauvinism, and provinces are turning against each other... These are risks to all of South Africa!

We must refuse to let violent hate groups distract us! If enough of us speak up, we can counter dangerous misinformation, report xenophobic violence and help those fleeing for their lives, and remind others who the real villains are: the greedy politicians, officials and business leaders who have cut jobs and charge high food prices.

[FOOD JUSTICE]: "Across South Africa, millions of households are under immense economic pressure. Social grants remain a critical lifeline for many families, yet rising food prices, unemployment and inequality continue to push nutritious food further out of reach. For many households, the priority is no longer healthy eating; it is about survival.

This is not about blaming parents, caregivers or informal traders. It is about confronting the reality of a food system that continues to fail poor communities. However, survival should not come at the cost of health and dignity.

Children are growing up in environments where unhealthy food is often the cheapest, most available and most aggressively marketed option. Families are expected to make better choices in a system where healthier options remain unaffordable or inaccessible for many communities."

[PETITION]: Reject the 50% MyCiTi Monthly Pass Increase

The City of Cape Town is planning to increase the MyCiti Bus fare by 50%. A monthly pass will move from R1000 to R1500. People are already struggling to survive, and the last thing they need is a hike in one of the most widely used modes of transport for people from low-income communities.

Cape Town residents are calling on the City to:

πŸ”΅ Suspend the increase;
πŸ”΅ Review the fare structure;
πŸ”΅ Engage affected communities;
πŸ”΅ Introduce affordable commuter relief for workers, learners and low-income passengers.

For many families, an extra R500 per month is not a small increase β€” it can mean less money for food, electricity, school needs and other basic household expenses. Join the campaign to help ensure that public transport is made affordable for all. Add your name to the petition here: https://awethu.amandla.mobi/petitions/reject-the-50-myciti-monthly-pass-increase-public-transport-must-remain-affordable.

[Basic Income Grant]: "The Department of Social Development (DSD) expects to hear by July whether the National Treasury is satisfied with revisions made to its proposed Basic Income Support (BIS) policy. This is a key step before the policy can advance through government approval processes...

Sibeko said that after the meeting with the Treasury in July, the department would update the draft policy and submit it for a Socio-Economic Impact Assessment System review by the Presidency...

She added that the department might need to seek another extension of the Social Relief of Distress grant beyond March 2027 to ensure there is no interruption in support while the policy and legislative processes are completed."

Workers at CHEP have been working at the company for 18 years, yet some of them are still not permanent employees. Not only that, but they are also being underpaid.

Here is what the workers are demanding:

1. Chep South Africa give them permanent workers employment.
2. Allocate them the benefits of other permanent workers at Chep South Africa
3. Pay them a wage increase of R2500 across the board to bring their meagre pay closer to a living wage.

They need your help in pressuring Chep South Africa to give them permanent positions, a wage increase and access to company benefits. Add your name to the petition here: https://awethu.amandla.mobi/petitions/make-the-striking-workers-at-pallet-making-giant-chep-south-africa-permanent-now.

19/06/2026

[Waste Reclaimers]: Waste Reclaimers are concerned about the privatisation of waste disposal and the closure of landfills. They are calling on the City of Joburg to stop this and introduce a way for reclaimers to participate in finding solutions to the city's waste issues.

Their demands include:

πŸ”΅ Keep Marie Louise and all Pikitup landfills open to general waste until solutions are found that do not negatively affect the livelihoods of reclaimers.
πŸ”΅ Find solutions to keep the landfills that work open.
πŸ”΅ Partner with the African Reclaimers Organisation to help them work with residents to collect and separate their waste in their homes.
πŸ”΅ Implement plans to make sure that waste reclaimers are paid well and fairly.

Join waste reclaimers in their call to ensure a clean and waste-free Joburg. Add your name to the petition here: https://awethu.amandla.mobi/petitions/stop-the-landfill-crisis-protect-our-city-and-the-environment.

Tell Minister Parks Tau to ban gambling adverts + sponsorships now!

The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC) recognises that excessive gambling advertising contributes to the increase in gambling in South Africa, yet they have not implemented measures to address the issue. We must continue applying pressure on them until they ban gambling adverts and sponsorships.
