The Johannesburg Junior Council (JJC) is presently comprised of 72 junior councillors all of whom are Grade 11 students, nominated by 36 secondary schools in the Greater Johannesburg Metropolitan area. The JJC was established in Johannesburg in 1928. It was formally associated with the Johannesburg City Council. It is now a registered NGO (052/457/NPO), completely self sufficient and run by the youth of Johannesburg. The JJC is comprised of a Governing Body, an Executive Committee, Chairpersons of six committees and their committee members. The Executive comprises of a Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Speaker of House, Chief Whip, Secretary and Public Relations Officer. The six committees - Youth Awareness, Welfare, Sports and Recreation, Arts and Culture, Ecology and Contact - are each managed by a Chairperson and a Deputy Chairperson and are governed by a constitution. Among many things the JJC is committed to developing future leaders and upstanding citizens of this country, whilst at the same time giving back to the community.

Happy 100th, JJC. 🎉

Recently we celebrated a century of the Johannesburg Junior Council with our Centenary Celebration at Holy Family College, hearing from guest speaker Paula Slier, whose work covering conflict and the fight for truth around the world left us all thinking differently about the news we consume.

A hundred years of young Joburgers stepping up, speaking out, and shaping their city. Grateful to be part of the next chapter.

Calling absolutely anyone and everyone who has been a part of the council journey for the past 100 years!!

It goes without saying that the past 100 years have been a result of the collective efforts of councillors, parents, teachers, organisations, communities and every person who has been there for us.

Please come join us celebrate 100 years of Johannesburg Junior Council Tuesday the 22nd of September! See you there ♥️

We stand for the voices that were never heard.
We carry the stories of those who deserved to be protected.
Safety should never be a privilege, it should be a right.
South Africa, the time for change is now.
For every woman. For every child. For a safer tomorrow💜💜💜
