We are concerned by the violence and reports of looting in Durban and Soweto in relation to the issue of asylum seekers. We condemn the mis and disinformation that is fuelling xenophobia. The South African Police Service anyone found to be involved in the violence must be held accountable. More must be done to ensure that the right to safety for everyone who lives in South Africa is protected. No citizen has the right to block people from seeking asylum.

Everyone has human rights, regardless of nationality, language, documentation or where they call home.

When taps run dry, pipes go unrepaired, or wastewater contaminates the water supply, it is not just poor service delivery.
It is a failure of a constitutional obligation.

Independent Police Investigative Directorate's 2025/26 annual report raises the alarm on sexual violence committed by police officers, with the majority of alleged r**es committed by police on duty 🚨. It is unacceptable that the very people who are deployed to protect us, are the same people perpetrating gender-based violence. South African Police Service must ensure these crimes and the police officials who are perpetrators face serious consequences. There must be zero tolerance for predators in the police.

For more than 30 years, people in the Democratic Republic of Congo have lost family members, escaped burning homes, endured r**e, torture, and displacement, and waited for justice that has never arrived. Violations persist today because past crimes under international law have not been effectively prosecuted. This can change if millions of people act together.

Send a message to President Tshisekedi to set up an international justice process to prosecute people responsible for serious crimes committed in the DRC between 1993 and 2003.

Amnesty International South Africa notes the four commitments that Cyril Ramaphosa The Presidency of the Republic of South Africa has announced tonight to address the country’s high levels of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF). It is difficult to feel optimistic because we have seen plans and speeches like these time and time again, with very little action.

Case audits, reducing forensic backlogs and municipalities fixing lights and cutting grass should be happening 365 days of any given year.

Now is the time for long overdue action. We will be watching and monitoring progress alongside commitments made.
