"Most men believe they can, and most women think they cannot. The truth is both are mistaken."

That's from a participant, and it's the sharpest summary of the problem we've heard. Confidence without knowledge gets men hurt. Doubt without knowledge keeps women unprepared. Neither one is safety.

The fix is the same for both: being taught. Knowing how. One target, one response, learned properly.

"It was such an exhilarating and empowering experience and I can truly say that I feel that I now have a choice."
That last word is the one that stuck with us. Choice. Because before the training, that's exactly what was missing. Not courage, not willpower. Just the knowledge that turns a situation you endure into a situation where you have options.

If someone does this, you do that. If someone does that, you do this. If someone grabs here, step there, twist that.
Now close your eyes and repeat all of it back. That's the problem.
Most programmes hand you a decision tree and hope you can run it in the worst three seconds of your life. Nobody can. The people teaching it can't either, they've just practised long enough to stop noticing.

Shaking hands don't mean you can't. They just mean it matters.

Everyone in this room had a version of the same story. Too young, too small, not strong enough, not the type. Stories rehearsed for years, and disproven in one second of contact with a wooden board.

Lise came to a workshop with her daughter and two tweenies. Afterwards she sent us this, and then she asked for something.

"Please please please can you guys do another workshop? Do it nationwide."

That request stuck with us, because she's right. The mothers and daughters who need this most are spread across the whole country, and a workshop can only be in one place at a time.

"Do you think you could break this board?"
Almost everyone says no. The same no Mark hears when he asks women whether they could immobilise a man twice their size.
Both answers come from the same place. Nobody ever taught them how. Not can't. Don't know how yet. Those are very different problems, and only one of them takes years to fix.
The board exists to close that gap in a single moment. You learn the how, you throw the punch, and the thing you were certain you couldn't do is in two pieces on the floor. Now you know something about yourself that no one can talk you out of.
