This morning, during my Bible study, I found myself deeply reflecting on Psalm 8, especially verses 3 to 6.
“When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than God, and You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet.”
— Psalm 8:3–6
What struck me is the flow of thought in this passage. The psalmist looks at the vastness of creation, the moon, the stars, the heavens, and then immediately turns to man. There is no full stop separating creation from humanity. The statement continues, because the emphasis is connected.
The question being asked is not just how big creation is, but why God went all out like this for man.
Creation is not the center of the story, man is. God created the universe, and then He created man and placed everything under him. Scripture does not say creation rules man. It says man rules creation. Creation exists to serve man. Man stands as master over what God has made. That speaks volumes. The Bible says God crowned man with glory and honor. Crowns belong to kings. Authority belongs to kings. Dominion belongs to kings. This is why Scripture repeatedly speaks of us in royal language. God did not create man as an afterthought, He created him as one who reigns. When the psalm says “You have put all things under his feet,” it is not symbolic language meant to be watered down. It is a declaration of rank. Everything, animals, the earth, creation itself, is positioned beneath man, not above him.
And this is where the reminder becomes personal. Because of circumstances, failures, or the words of people who know our weaknesses, we can start seeing ourselves as small. But people do not define us. Circumstances do not define us. Past mistakes do not define us. Only the Word of God.
