The AMORC term “So Mote It Be” is an injunction, a command, expressing the will that what has been affirmed should become so. Will is about power: the power to direct consciousness towards an intention and to act upon it. Willpower is the inner force required to sustain that intention until it is accomplished.
What we do in little things we will do in big things. AMORC gives exercises and experiments for the development of both the will and intentions. Do them. Then the “so mote it be” becomes a decree, a command, a manifestation.
So mote it be – only four words. Just words. A dream. The student is sometimes perceived to be feeling plaintive: “Why didn’t it work?” “I tried so HARD.” I did everything exactly as outlined in the exercise and did not get the result I visualised.”
What happened?
Nothing happened.
The student had the will but not the power.
So here’s the secret, the “magic” if you like:
You have to train your will.
1. Do what you say you will do, be impeccable with your word.
2. Keep promises
3. Show up
4. Do the dishes
5. Clean up after yourself
6. Be punctual
7. If you decide to stop smoking, stop
8. If you decide to stop gambling, drinking, or keeping the wrong company, stopping
9. Be kind
10. Find a way to serve humanity, your community, your family. Find a way and do it.
It is only by the daily doing of duty, the ordinary chop wood and carry water days, the things that appear to have nothing at all to do with being a mystic, an AMORC student, that build up your muscle – the power of the will.
Be honest. Keep your word. Be reliable. Live the Master’s life for an hour or a day. Attend to the task at hand.
You cannot see what this has to do with the great promise given to us students? Do it anyway. What a drag! Right? Yes. Until ...
Until there is an emergency, a crisis.
You see clearly what needs to be done, your perceptions and discernment now well developed through the studies. You visualise. You breathe. You project your intent
