🇵🇹✨ It was great fun creating our float this year under the guidance of our project manager, Bella Swart. As a true family, we agreed, disagreed, debated, laughed, and worked together every step of the way. That is what family and friendship are all about.
A heartfelt thank you to Joe and Maria for the loan of their bakkie, and to Manny de Agrela for providing the frame, always caring for our team. Months of planning, teamwork, creativity, and dedication resulted in a project that everyone enjoyed being part of.
This experience was about so much more than building a float,it was about celebrating who we are as Portuguese people: united, proud of our heritage, and working together towards a common goal.
Well done to everyone who contributed and made this journey so special. Viva Portugal! 🇵🇹❤️

What does the 10th of June mean to Portugal? Beyond its historical significance, it represents unity, pride, culture, and the strength of Portuguese communities around the world.
We, at the Portuguese Dance Society Johannesburg, celebrated this spirit on Sunday through months of hard work that culminated in a float filled with colour, creativity, and Portuguese pride. Along the way there was plenty of laughter, a few disagreements, lots of teamwork, friendship, and bonding. Most importantly, we got to know one another better and grew stronger as a team.
Congratulations to our amazing team on achieving 2nd place! A well-deserved result for everyone's dedication and commitment.
Congratulations as well to Poveiros on their 1st place achievement, and to the Portuguese Youth Forum for securing 3rd place. These results are proof that success comes from months of planning, hard work, and teamwork.
A special mention to all the other floats that participated. Together, you helped make this celebration truly memorable. This is what the 10th of June is all about especially in South Africa Gauteng, bringing the Portuguese community of Johannesburg together in unity and friendship.
Thank you to all the organisers, from Casa da Madeira to Núcleo, for creating such a festive and enjoyable event. To the Dia de Portugal Committee, once again, you nailed it!

This year, our team decided to bring a burst of colour and creativity to our Dia de Portugal float with the beautiful theme of the Umbrella Sky Project, which began in 2012 in the charming town of Águeda, Portugal. 🇵🇹☂️🌈
☂️ The Umbrella Sky Project – Águeda, Portugal ☂️
Located just 25 minutes from Aveiro, Águeda became world-famous when the creative agency Impactplan launched the Umbrella Sky Project as part of the annual AgitÁgueda Festival. What started as a unique artistic installation transformed ordinary streets into vibrant works of art, with hundreds of colourful umbrellas floating overhead.
Inspired by the magical character Mary Poppins, the project brings colour, shade, joy, and a sense of wonder to public spaces. From its beginnings in Águeda, it has spread to cities around the world and has become one of Portugal’s most iconic urban art installations.
Today, visitors from across the globe travel to Águeda to experience this breathtaking canopy of floating umbrellas, making the town a symbol of creativity, culture, and Portuguese innovation.
We are proud to celebrate Portuguese heritage and share a little piece of Portugal's colourful spirit through our float this year. 🇵🇹❤️
