World Environment Day 2026
Today, EMF SA joined environmental advocates, young people, and community members at Ubuntu.Hub for a World Environment Day event hosted in partnership with Greenpeace Africa. The day featured a powerful screening and engaging discussions on climate justice, accountability, and the urgent need for collective action.
The conversations highlighted how extreme weather events are increasingly affecting vulnerable communities, while those who contribute the least to climate change often bear the greatest burden. Participants reflected on the importance of climate finance, environmental justice, and ensuring that governments and major polluters are held accountable for their role in the climate crisis.
Critical questions were raised:
▪️ Is it fair to expect affected communities to carry the burden of adapting to climate change alone?
▪️ How can citizens hold governments accountable for continued dependence on fossil fuels?
▪️ What role can young people play in protecting our environment and advocating for climate justice?
As young leaders, we believe that meaningful climate action requires fairness, accountability, and the inclusion of communities most affected by environmental challenges.
A sincere thank you to Greenpeace Africa and all partners for creating a platform for dialogue, learning, and action. Together, we continue to amplify youth voices and build a more just and sustainable future.
