244 Civic Champions. Five municipalities. One shared commitment to stronger local democracy.

Over the past two months, the Local Democracy Accountability (LDA) Initiative has trained and equipped 244 Civic Accountability Champions across Mahikeng, JB Marks, City of Matlosana, Rustenburg, and Madibeng Local Municipalities.

These champions are now taking what they have learned into their communities, helping communities better understand local government, participate meaningfully in decision-making, and promote greater transparency and accountability.

This map represents more than numbers, it reflects a small but growing network of informed citizens committed to strengthening democracy from the ground up.

Thanks to our partners at IEC, SALGA and NW Provincial Legislature.

From Boitekong to Lefarakgatlha, the conversations continues.

Happening now; our second ward-level engagement for the day under the Local Democracy Accountability (LDA) Initiative, in Lefarakgatlha, Ward 7 in the Rustenburg Local Municipality, Bojanala District - North West Province.

These sessions are designed to take civic education beyond workshops and into communities, creating spaces where residents can engage on local governance, accountability and meaningful participation in democratic processes.

It is encouraging to see community members eager to learn, ask questions and explore practical ways of shaping the future of their wards. Democracy is strongest when citizens are informed, organised and actively involved.

This morning we are in Boitekong, Ward 20 in the Rustenburg Local Municipality for our first session, engaging directly with community members through the Local Democracy Accountability (LDA) Initiative.

These ward sessions are creating space for honest conversations about local governance, accountability and the role every citizen can play in strengthening democracy. Democracy is strongest when people are informed, engaged and empowered to participate in the decisions that affect their daily lives.

Your voices, questions and commitment to your community are what make this work meaningful.
