SASCE hosts a successful multi-stakeholder dialogue on TVET graduate quality
The multi-stakeholder dialogue on TVET Graduate-Quality, against the backdrop of a new TVET Curriculum was aimed at evaluating potential impact of the curriculum on graduate output as well as on the education and employment value chains.
The dialogue featured presentations from TVET colleges, Mining & Science Industry representatives, and the Mining Qualifications Authority.
Delegates agreed that it is critical for TVET education to produce graduates who are competent, adaptable, relevant workplace-ready, and that Work-Integrated Learning is an essential pillar of TVET programs, in addition to the classroom and in-house workshops and specialisation centres. The need for industry partnerships, co-operative education and responsiveness of TVET programs to industry and global standards was emphasised.
Additionally, discussions revealed that there is a need to integrate soft skills and entrepreneurship into TVET curricula, ensure lecturer readiness and industry exposure as well as continuous research to gauge and maintain curriculum effectiveness. Participants applauded the new TVET curriculum for its alignment with industry demands and its emphasis on Work-Integrated Learning, but identified a need for continuous dialogue to address matters likely to compromise implementation and jeopardise quality output.
