Sharing some crime stats for the Honeydew area which includes Laser Park.
HONEYDEW CRIME STATS QUARTER 2 - JULY 2025 TO SEPTEMBER 2025
Good day, Residents
The crime statistics for the second quarter have been released.
Many residents regularly request clear and accurate crime figures for the Honeydew precinct, specifically the actual numbers rather than the percentage-based statistics often shared at monthly CPF meetings. To assist, we have taken the official SAPS report (publicly available on the SAPS website) and simplified it. Each crime category has been broken down to highlight trends over the past several years, offering a clearer picture of where progress has been made and where challenges remain.
From this historical data, it’s evident that Honeydew SAPS has experienced a mixed quarter. While there has been improvement in certain categories, several areas of concern require ongoing attention and community support.
One of the most notable increases this quarter is in carjacking cases, with 16 more incidents reported compared to the previous period. There has also been an increase in kidnapping cases, but it is important to clarify that these are largely linked to hijackings or carjackings. When a victim is taken along with their vehicle during such an incident, SAPS opens both a carjacking and a kidnapping case. These are not random abductions, but rather an extension of vehicle-related crimes, which continue to be among the most prevalent in our precinct.
We have also seen increases in:
Robbery at residential premises
Common robbery
Robbery with aggravating circumstances
On a positive note, Honeydew SAPS has recorded an improvement in the category of crimes detected as a result of police action, showing a 66.2% reduction. This indicates increased proactive policing and fewer incidents requiring reactive intervention.
Detailed crime stats can be obtained on the following link and selecting the relevant station or crime component
The CPF will continue working closely with SAPS to monitor these trends and support targeted crime-prevention initiatives. As always, we encourage residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activity, and stay engaged with our community safety structures.
