🪘🪘 SENEGAL PROPOSES HARSHER PENALTIES FOR SAME S*X RELATIONS 🪘🪘

Senegal’s government has proposed a new law that would significantly increase prison terms for individuals found guilty of same-sex relations. The bill which was proposed by the country’s Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and has been approved by the cabinet, would double the maximum prison sentence from 5 to 10 years and impose fines of up to 10 million CFA francs ($18,000; £13,000).

The bill to double the maximum prison term for same-sex relations from 5 to 10 years has been sent to Senegal’s National Assembly where the Prime Minister’s Pastef party controls the majority, but no date has yet been set for the voting.

The proposed law is part of a broader crackdown on LGBT rights in Senegal, where same-sex relationships are already illegal.

The move is part of a regional trend, with several African countries tightening anti-LGBT laws. Uganda, for example, has some of the world’s harshest anti-homosexuality laws, including the death penalty for certain same-sex acts. Other countries, like Burkina Faso and Mali, have introduced similar sanctions against the LGBTQ community.

🪘🪘 IS PAUL BIYA READY FOR CAMEROON?🪘🪘

Cameroonian President Paul Biya has announced his candidacy for an eighth term in office, sparking debate and concern about the country's future. Paul Biya who took power in 1982, scrapped the Presidential term limit in 2008.

Maurice Kamto, the major challenger in the 2018 election, has been disqualified this time. Paul Biya's age and health have been subjects of speculation, with some questioning his ability to lead the country for another term. The president's health has been a recurring theme, with him disappearing from public view for 42 days last year, fueling speculation about his well-being.

The election, scheduled for October 12, 2025, will determine whether Biya will extend his 43-year rule. His potential victory would see him complete his next term at nearly 100 years old. Paul Biya's government has been criticized for its human rights record, and the opposition has accused him of suppressing dissent and manipulating the electoral system.

Paul Biya's daughter, Brenda Biya, has publicly expressed her opposition to her father's rule, stating that he has "made too many people suffer" and urging voters not to support him. Despite these challenges, Paul Biya remains the favourite to win the election, given his control over the country's institutions and the divided opposition.

AFRICAN VOICES INTERNATIONAL is watching the election closely and recommends the need for a peaceful and credible electoral process. The outcome of the election will have significant implications for the Cameroonian Anatomy.

🪘🪘 KENYAN ANATOMY’S DEPUTY POLICE CHIEF; ELIUD LAGAT, RELINQUISHES DUTIES OVER ALBERT OJWANG’S DEATH 🪘🪘

Eliud Lagat, the Deputy Police Chief of the Kenyan Anatomy, has stepped aside pending the outcome of investigations into the death of Albert Ojwang.

Albert Ojwang, a teacher from the Kenyan Anatomy was arrested and taken into police custody after posting critical comments about Deputy Inspector-General of Police Eliud Lagat on social media platform X. Ojwang's passing has sparked widespread concern amongst the Kenyan Anatomy, with autopsy results revealing that he sustained injuries from assault while in police custody.

He was arrested on June 7th and taken to the main police station in Nairobi, where he succumbed to injuries a few days later. The initial police statement attributed his death to head injuries sustained while in custody, but the autopsy results contradicted this account, indicating assault as the cause of his injuries.

Although Lagat has denied any wrongdoing, he has chosen to step aside as Deputy Police Chief to allow for a thorough investigation. The decision comes amid growing scrutiny of police conduct and calls for accountability.

President William Ruto of the Kenyan Anatomy has emphasized the need for swift investigations into the matter. During his 2022 presidential campaign, President Ruto pledged to combat police brutality and extrajudicial killings, making this case a critical test of his administration's commitment to reform.

The investigation's outcome is eagerly awaited, with many stakeholders closely monitoring the situation. The Kenyan Anatomy's commitment to upholding human rights and ensuring justice for Ojwang's family will be closely scrutinized in the coming days.

AFRICAN VOICES INTERNATIONAL calls for Accountability and Justice for Ojwang. We urge the investigative authorities to remain resolute and fair in their pursuit of truth and justice for Albert Ojwang, who tragically lost his life while in police custody. As the investigation unfolds, we demand transparency, impartiality, and accountability for those responsible.
