Big October continued for the Safe Space team as we attended the very first GBVF Indaba hosted by ActNow_Africa at 011 Gin Bar in Sandton.

We are grateful for the opportunity and platform to share more about who we are and the solution we've created to fighting the scourge of GBVF across every community in every corner of this country. The networking was invaluable and the partnerships formed at this event were just as noteworthy!

We look forward to working with more stakeholders as we expand our reach. Join us in ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’œ

Creating Safe Spaces ๐Ÿ’œ

October was a big month for the team at Safe Space and we've been hard at work behind the scenes ensuring Safe Space reaches far and wide!

We hosted our first Networking Brunch, it was an intimate affair with valuable stakeholders from the political, entertainment, hospitality, law, banking and media sectors, all coming together to share in our vision of

We were honoured amongst our guests to host Mayor Dr Mpho Phalatse of the City of Johannesburg as well as Ntsiki Sisulu, Head of Department for Community Safety in Gauteng.

Cut and Craft Bistro was the backdrop for this event which saw the first of many partnerships within the hospitality industry as we seek to create Safe Spaces in restaurants and social spaces. Stay tuned for more events just like this and reach out if you'd like to get involved! ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿค

From fear to a Safe Space

Safe Space is a Non Profit Organisation (pending) with its roots in Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa, seeking to transform how Gender Based Violence is addressed by government and the civil society.

Founded by Nakita Dellwaria and Chloe Homer in March 2020. We are on a journey to change society in a small way by creating Safe Spaces. By reclaiming spaces rampant with incidents of GBV, we will restore the joy that these spaces once brought to victims of GBV. A platform for people from all walks of life to make their voices heard and create a Safe Space.

โ€œGender Based Violence is silent and we need a voice, we are taking back our public spaces, join us in the fight against GBV!โ€. Our energy fueling this concept is the need for real change in how civil society views and speaks out against GBV and how government addresses this issue. This cause is important to us as victims of GBV to be able to take our experiences and voices to empower other people who feel they cannot speak out and to equip people with the tools they needs to make safer spaces.

By using chalk as a means to share our experiences, we will bring to life the harsh realities of GBV, the words that leave scars unseen to the naked eye and share a glimpse into the heart and mind of a victim of Gender Based Violence. Whether it be in parks, on university campuses, in parking lots, on sidewalks, in city centres... we taking back our spaces.
