NORTH WEST UNIVERSITY TO BUILD A CAMPUS IN RUSTENBURG.

North-West University (NWU) has announced plans to build a new campus in Rustenburg, set to focus mainly on mining and mining engineering.

Construction is expected to start in 2027 and be completed by 2030. The project forms part of NWU’s long-term strategy to expand access to higher education and create opportunities for young people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Rustenburg, a global hub for platinum mining, has long faced challenges of unemployment and underdevelopment despite its mineral wealth.

By establishing this campus, NWU aims to bridge the gap between education and industry, create jobs, develop future engineers, and contribute to economic growth. The initiative will also support government priorities such as mineral beneficiation and skills development.

This bold step positions NWU as a driver of transformation and hope for the North West Province.
