Thank you to the Pumeza Mngambi Foundation for bringing together organisations, employers, training providers, and young people at the PMF Youth Expo 2026.

Over two days, our team spoke with young people exploring their next steps after school, looking for skills development opportunities, and seeking clearer pathways into the world of work.

Many of the conversations centred on questions we hear often:

-How do I gain experience if no one will hire me?
-Which skills are employers actually looking for?
-What opportunities are available to me right now?

These questions matter because career decisions are often shaped by access to information, guidance, and exposure.

Events like the PMF Youth Expo create space for young people to ask those questions, connect with organisations, and make more informed decisions about their future.

We were proud to stand alongside organisations working to expand access to learning, skills development, and employment opportunities across South Africa.

Most people think workplaces notice technical skills first.

They do matter.

But often, the things that build trust are less obvious.

-Can you take feedback without getting defensive?
-Can you stay consistent when motivation disappears?
-Do you own mistakes when things go wrong?
-Can you keep learning when nobody is grading you anymore?

These are the habits that influence how people work with you, trust you, and give you more responsibility over time.

That's why work readiness is about more than skills. It's also about behaviour.

As you go through the carousel, take a moment to reflect:

Which of these comes naturally to you, and which one are you still working on?

If you're interested in building a stronger growth mindset, Alison offers a free course on Growth Mindset for Success in Life, School and Career. It explores topics like resilience, goal setting, positive thinking, and learning from challenges.

What does it look like when an alumni network stays active after the programme ends?

Our alumni came together across different cohorts and industries to reconnect, reflect, and speak honestly about the realities of work after iHub, from freelancing and building professional relationships to staying consistent in your career.

We were joined by Tshepo Mokonyane, who shared practical insights on freelancing, networking, and why your relationships matter long before you need them.

The conversation kept coming back to one thing: careers are not built through talent alone. They’re built through habits, adaptability, and people who continue showing up for each other over time.

That’s what makes this alumni network valuable. The programme may end, but the relationships, accountability, and shared learning continue.

For alumni interested in growing their freelancing journey, here are some free freelancing courses you can explore from Alison - Free Empowerment Platform https://alison.com/courses?query=freelancing

Thank you to everyone who joined and contributed to the conversation:
