What an incredibly nice gentleman that we got to meet.
Melusi has been through a lot with his Vitiligo, but after years and years he finally accepted who he is and is now thriving.

On an other note, people always assume that people with Vitiligo are OKAY just because they aren't lying on a sick bed - most of them will put on a smile but they would be suffering on the inside.

Always be nice to them and treat them like everyone else.
Melusi has done so amazing for himself even after being treated unfairly by the corporate world, unfortunately there are others who aren't as content as he is.

Always be kind and supportive

Happy World Vitiligo Day everyone!!

Quick facts about vitiligo:

Vitiligo is a multifactorial disorder, reflecting simultaneous contributions of multiple genetic risk factors AND environmental triggers such as stress and chemicals.

Vitiligo affects approximately 70 000 000 people across the world.

People with vitiligo may be more likely to get other autoimmune conditions that affect how their body’s immune system functions e.g thyroid disease, rheumatoid arthritis, alopecia areata and type 1 diabetes.

Vitiligo has been found to be associated with an impact on hearing and vision.

Vitiligo is NOT cosmetic.

Vitiligo is progressive, but there’s no way to know how quickly your vitiligo will spread or how much skin pigmentation you’ll lose.

There is no cure but there are products available to try and manage / control the symptoms.

TYPES OF VITILIGO INCLUDE:

Generalised:
This is the most common type of vitiligo with depigmentation appearing in a few areas and usually progressing to cover more of the body.

Segmental:
This type only affects one side of your body or one area, such as your hands or face.

Mucosal:
Mucosal vitiligo affects mucous membranes of your mouth and/or ge****ls.

Focal:
Depigmentation is only on one or two areas of the body and don’t spread in a certain pattern within one to two years.

Trichome:
This type causes a bullseye with a white or colourless centre, then an area of lighter pigmentation, and an area of your natural skin tone.

Universal: 80% - 100% of the body is depigmented.
