What did the Panorama@Work team get up to today? 👷♻️

Today we partnered with New Era Waste, who generously supplied a skip bin, to tackle a massive clean-up operation at Bergkaree Park. The park was covered in litter and illegally dumped waste, but together we worked hard to restore the area and make it cleaner and safer for our community.

By the end of the clean-up, we had filled an entire skip bin with refuse, waste, and even an old bed that had been dumped there.

A huge thank you to Chad from New Era Waste for stepping up and assisting us with a skip bin free of charge after hearing about the project and the difference it would make in the community. Your support truly makes a difference!

Residents of Ward 89 have now been without electricity for more than 36 hours. Contractors were only appointed this morning to begin locating the fault.

Upon inspecting the affected area, it appears that one of the damaged cables is located inside the old JG Strydom substation. Following a fire at the facility, all equipment was removed, but the cables were left inside an open trench and extended outside to where the mini substations are currently installed.

This issue has been raised with City Power Johannesburg - Official_Page on numerous occasions as a serious safety and infrastructure risk. Displaced individuals have since occupied the inside of the old substation, and repeated requests have been made to have the site properly secured and locked. Despite these concerns, City Power has failed to take the necessary steps to safeguard its own infrastructure.

This raises several important questions: Was this cable fault caused by aging infrastructure, attempted cable theft, or deliberate sabotage? And perhaps more importantly, why has City Power failed to secure and protect its infrastructure despite repeated warnings and requests?

Residents deserve answers, and more importantly, action.

Another productive two weekends for the Panorama@Work team! 👏

Our team has been hard at work cutting grass across the Panorama area, helping to keep our community clean, neat, and well maintained. We have also started skoffeling along JG Strydom and after just one day, the difference is already massive. It’s amazing to see the impact that dedicated work and community effort can have in such a short time.

This is exactly why resident support matters.

For only R270 per year, becoming a member of the Panorama Residents Association helps us continue projects like area maintenance, cleaning initiatives, community improvements, and creating a safer, better environment for everyone.

Today, three members of the Panorama@Work team took on several problem areas within our community, working hard to improve and uplift these spaces. In total, we addressed eight key areas and made meaningful progress in enhancing their appearance.

Tomorrow, the team will shift focus to two veld areas. The goal is to keep these spaces well-maintained and manageable, allowing us to better monitor movement within them.

None of this would be possible without the support of our community. By sharing what we do and encouraging residents within our PRA boundaries to get involved, we continue to grow stronger together.

Panorama Residents Association working smarter to get the job done in our community

Our Panorama@Work team received some exciting additions this week to help make their work easier and more efficient. With the support of Honeydew Lawnmowers, we were able to source two additional professional brush cutters, significantly speeding up our operations.

This brings our total to five machines, allowing the team to cover more ground and complete tasks much faster.

As a result, the team successfully cut the entire 9th Avenue, including the two corner properties we maintain there. They also cleared the intersection of Lemoendoring and Sewetjie, and began work on another veld in Rooisering that we service twice a year.

None of this would be possible without you, our residents, through your annual renewals and by recommending us to your neighbours and street groups.

If your neighbours are not yet part of the PRA, please encourage them to join. If they are clients of Westrand Reaction, Beagle Watch, or EC Security, their first year will be covered by their security company.

Alternatively, new members can sign up for just R270 for the year.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Help 24 EMS PTY Ltd for their prompt assistance tonight when a patient was experiencing a severe asthma attack and was clearly in distress.

Gauteng Emergency Medical Services were contacted, but during a follow-up call, after explaining the seriousness of the patient’s condition, the agent responded that they did not care and instructed us to simply wait. Unfortunately, the same response was received during a second follow-up attempt. This is deeply concerning and reflects a very troubling state of affairs.

Fortunately, Help 24 EMS dispatched a response vehicle and an ambulance. Their team stabilized the patient and transported him to Helen Joseph Hospital in a serious condition.

Our Panorama@Work team dedicated the entire day on Saturday to cleaning a section of the Batoka koppie. The area had been heavily neglected by City Parks, and we felt it was a great place to begin, clearing both the back and front sections.

A follow-up cleanup is planned in due course, but for now the area already looks far less overgrown.
