WeWild Africa

WeWild Africa WeWild Africa provides turn-key solutions for wildlife rescue, rewilding, and landscape restoration. We are willing to start from ground zero.

WeWild Africa was founded in 2019 by veteran conservation experts with over four decades of experience in wildlife conservation in Africa. We have worked in some of the most challenging places and situations in the world, with a never-give-up mindset. Through partnerships with key stakeholders and committed organizations and reserves, WeWild Africa is able to make decisions quickly and provide see

mingly impossible solutions. Since 2019 the organization has directly impacted over 550 animals through rescue or rewilding. Ego-free collaboration
We work constructively with other organizations and governments for the common good, not with an iron-fist approach. A sense of urgency
Our teams are responsive to urgent situations for the well-being of the animals involved. Pioneering approach
We take a bold, proactive approach to making fearless, dynamic rewilding plans. Conservation veterans
We offer more than 40 years of holistic landscape management and wildlife translocation experience. Conservation efforts are often poorly funded and under-resourced. From Gorillas and pangolins to elephants and cheetahs, WeWild Africa engages with a diverse range of stakeholders, bridging the gap and providing essential skills, capacity, and resources to partners in conservation in need – putting the wellbeing of animals first, always. From urgent emergency interventions, state-owned reserves that require management support, and captive facilities that wish to reintegrate animals back into the wild safely. We actively build trusting relationships with other organizations to achieve the best results possible, because there can simply be no competition for successful conservation – only collaboration. Our bespoke solutions cater to the unique needs of the Southern African wildlife conservation landscape. Rewild captive animals to support the populations of endangered species. Emergency wildlife rescues and interventions to secure the lives of animals at risk. Habitat management that protects critical landscapes for future rewilding.

The MTPA has received rhino counter-poaching equipment worth more than R500 000 to strengthen protection efforts within the province and Loskop Dam Nature Reserve! The donation supports ongoing counter-poaching investments by WeWild Africa and was funded through the Global Environment Facility in partnership with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment, UNEP, and SANBI. We are super excited about our continued collaboration with MTPA and deeply grateful for their ongoing commitment and efforts toward protecting Mpumalanga’s wildlife and protected areas.

At 06:00 on a March morning, two bull elephants were darted in Marataba, within Marakele National Park, and translocated to Babanango Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal. Following aerial immobilization, collaring, and coordinated ground handling by an expert capture team, the bulls were transported over 750 kilometers and released into a 20,000-hectare, community-owned reserve to strengthen genetic diversity and population structure. In South Africa’s fenced conservation landscape, translocations serve as a form of necessary managed migration. This operation was a collaboration among the Wildlife Emergency Fund, WeWild Africa (for media support), Marataba Game Lodges, Babanango Game Reserve, Conservation Outcomes, and Conservation Solutions.

One of our special guests from the UK recently had an absolutely incredible leopard sighting at Loskop Dam Nature Reserve. We think the competition is heating up with Sabi Sands Game Reserve!

Loskop currently has over 25 known leopards, and who knows how many more roam the incredible wild mountains and koppies of this 23,000 ha reserve.

Loskop Dam Nature Reserve is open for visitation, and May is one of the best times to come as the bushveld is still green and temperatures are cooler, making for very pleasant daytime game viewing. Every visit directly supports ongoing conservation and rewilding efforts within the reserve, and is one of the easiest ways to become involved in and contribute to the project.

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) has today received rhino anti-poaching equipment valued at over R500,000 from GEF7 funding from Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI).

This further donation will support the investment made by WeWild Africa in strengthening anti-poaching activities in the reserve.

They have been supporting the Anti-Poaching Unit and Field Rangers for 2 years with vehicles and equipment.

The GEF7 donation of equipment is aimed at further strengthening the fight against anti-poaching activities in the Loskop Dam Nature Reserve to safeguard our natural endowment.

The donated equipment was officially handed over to the Interim Chairperson of the MTPA Board, Mr. Fish Mahlalela, together with the Agency’s management team led by the Acting Chief Executive Officer (ACEO), Mr. Lemmy Mdluli with the Executive Manager responsible for Biodiversity Conservation Ms. Nomcebo Kunene.

The Agency welcomed the support, noting that collaborative partnerships remain critical in enhancing conservation capacity and ensuring the protection of Mpumalanga's natural heritage.

Incredible energy at the recent WeWild Africa CEO Breakfast with the Middelburg Chamber of Commerce last week!

We are on the brink of something big. A Big Five reserve: a massive wild landscape that strengthens local pride, identity, and culture right in Middelburg’s backyard. Unlocking the potential of this landscape will drive economic growth throughout the province through tourism, angling, hospitality, and broader business opportunities, increasing revenue and land value.

A protected Loskop Dam offers families and future generations the chance to experience a pristine natural environment close to home, while also delivering cleaner, more reliable water to all downstream agriculture and communities.

The work is already well underway, with millions of rands invested in hyacinth control, rhino dehorning, road grading, infrastructure upgrades, and enhanced security across the reserve.

What came through clearly in the meeting is that a provincial reserve like this can serve as a blueprint for a sustainable model of protecting nature across Africa, if it is supported by local communities and business leaders.

We are now at a point where a surge of CapEx can transform the reserve into a fully functioning Big Five destination. Middelburg businesses are invited to sign a pledge to support the Loskop Dam Nature Reserve and become part of building this landscape.

To get involved, please email us with your interest. We would love to have you join us in building something truly special in our backyard.
