A VERY SPECIAL DIOR FIND AT THE REEA CHARITY BOOKSHOP

Now and then, something truly special arrives at the REEA Charity Bookshop, and this is certainly one of those occasions.

We have recently received a 1954 English edition of Christian Dior: Talking About Fashion with Elie Rabourdin and Alice Chavane, a fascinating piece of fashion history.

Published during Dior’s lifetime, the book is based on conversations about his career and work as a couturier. The original French edition, Je suis couturier, was published in 1951, with the material having first appeared as a series of articles in the French magazine Elle. The English edition followed in 1954.

Dior gives an extraordinary insight into the world of haute couture from the inside, discussing the birth of a collection, fashion shows, clients, the business of couture and the future of his revolutionary New Look.

The book also contains eight plates on blue paper featuring Dior’s fashion drawings, making this a particularly interesting edition for collectors and anyone fascinated by fashion history.

This particular copy has been valued at US$1,500, and we are offering it for R3,500.

So, calling all book collectors, Dior enthusiasts and lovers of fashion history. This is definitely not something that comes through the Bookshop door every day!

Great Furniture Finds in Support of REEA!

Auction IT SA is selling a selection of furniture and homeware, with a portion of the proceeds going towards supporting the REEA Foundation.

Don't forget the bottles!

Did you know the REEA Hostel accepts more than just recycling paper?

We also collect thick w**e and spirits bottles. Please make sure the bottles are clean and rinsed before dropping them off, as our recyclers are very specific about the bottles they accept.

So, before those empty bottles go into the bin, please consider donating them to REEA instead. Every bottle helps!

If you have paper or suitable w**e and spirits bottles for recycling, we’d be very grateful for your donation.

A Generous Surprise for the REEA Hostel

The REEA Hostel residents were recently surprised with a generous donation from a high school pupil, including foodstuffs and useful kitchen essentials.

It was a thoughtful gesture which will be put to good use at the Hostel, and we really appreciate the time and thought that went into putting the donation together.

It’s wonderful to see young people getting involved and supporting their community. Thank you for thinking of REEA and helping to make a difference.

Game On!

Deona Brough wears more than one hat at the REEA Hostel. Besides teaching art, she is also a dab hand at organising games mornings!

Scrabble, Rummikub, UNO and plenty of other games keep the residents busy, entertained and enjoying a bit of friendly competition. There is always a lot of enthusiasm around the table, and no shortage of laughter either!
