Orlando Pirates have confirmed that supporters who purchased valid tickets but were unable to enter Orlando Amstel Arena during Saturday's Betway Premiership clash against Milford FC will be eligible for refunds.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, the club said the decision to close the stadium gates during the match was taken by the Venue Operations Centre (VOC) as a public safety measure.
According to the club, the lockdown followed ongoing criminal activities around the stadium, including the sale of counterfeit match tickets and the illegal entry of individuals without valid tickets. Orlando Pirates said these activities posed a serious threat to the safety and security of everyone at the venue.
While emphasizing that the decision was beyond the club's control, Pirates apologized to supporters who held legitimate tickets but were denied entry because of the stadium lockdown.
The club has appointed Open Tickets to handle the refund process. Eligible supporters are required to contact [email protected] to submit their refund applications.
Orlando Pirates also said they will continue working with the Premier Soccer League, stadium management and law enforcement agencies to strengthen security and prevent similar incidents in future.
