Money Talk: How to Make Sure Your Side Hustle is Profitable
Are you truly getting a return on the time, energy, and effort you’re putting into your side hustle?
South African women are increasingly taking up space in business, personal finance, and the media, driving important conversations around money management, investing, and financial independence. But despite this progress, challenges remain.
In 2023, women earned just 77 cents for every dollar earned by men; a stark reminder of the gender pay gap, and the barriers women still face in building and scaling profitable ventures. For many, side hustles are not just passion projects, they’re pathways to financial freedom.
This session goes beyond motivation. It’s about making your side hustle make money.
Join us for a powerful masterclass featuring a panel of experienced women entrepreneurs and industry voices who will share real insights on turning effort into actual profit.
Expect honest conversations, practical advice, and strategies you can apply immediately.
Investment to attend:
• R250 per person
• R50 for students (valid student ID required)

No one can survive on one income stream these days.💡

What every good entrepreneur and/or employee needs is a way to make some extra money, and women are more vulnerable than most, with 43% single mother households in South Africa.

One of the most transferable skills today is public speaking, doing podcasts and facilitation and moderation. Women in the professional sector are usually doing one, if not all, of these areas, and normally as part of their work.

With some work and clever marketing, these can be turned into income streams.

We're excited to introduce the 2026 WOMEN ENTREPRENEUR SIDE HUSTLE TALK SERIES hosted by AIfE

If you'd like to know more about how you can turn some of your current skills into an income stream, join us online on 24 March 2026 to hear from industry experts who are passionate about sharing their knowledge and empowering others.

Yesterday, we wrapped up the second leg of the Western Cape Government DEDAT TECH Talk Series with a specific focus on SMMEs in the Manufacturing Sector.

It truly was an inspiring and empowering morning of insights shared, networking, and robust conversations.

A big thank you to Dr Ivan Meyer, Sandras Phiri, Razaan Jakoet, Gareth Duncan, Gregory Boulle, Louis Cabano and Aobakwe Tsatsi for sharing incredible insight along with practical tips with everyone in the room.

There were many standout moments, but here are some key takeaways from yesterday's sessions:
🌱 "Failure is part of success! Don't be afraid of failure in business. Find one idea that you'd like to implement and set the deadline to do so within the next 90 days!" - Dr Ivan Meyer (Minister of Agriculture, Economic Development & Tourism)
🌱 "Efficiency is key in manufacturing, it ensures that wastage is kept to a minimum. Being intentional about this ensures that you can be competitive." - Greg Boulle
🌱 "Remember your why and allow that to push you forward when things get hard" - Lucas Tstatsi
🌱 "There are endless opportunities out there. Don't be afraid to take your idea and make it into something powerful" - Gareth Duncan
🌱 "Adopting technology and being open to tech innovation frees up your time so that you can focus on what really matters - ensuring your customers receive a high-quality product, each time. Don't be afraid of technology." - Louis Cabano
🌱 "Keep the passion. This is what will carry you when things are difficult" - Razaan Jakoet.

What an incredible finish to the 𝐃𝐄𝐃𝐀𝐓 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬!

Day 2, focusing on the 𝑩𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝑺𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓, was a powerful reminder of what it takes to thrive as a small and medium business in the Western Cape.

This series is the visionary work of Jo-Ann Johnston, HOD at DEDAT, who, along with her incredible team, provided an incredible platform for SMEs to network and be equipped for the digital future.

Yesterday's insights were focused not just on tech, but on the fundamental mindset required for success: 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡.

A Few Key Takeaways That Will Empower Your Business:

𝐵𝑒 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑏𝑢𝑖𝑙𝑑𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑟𝑒𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑝𝑠, as these connections can always open doors for you and help you get greater exposure.

"𝐶𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑡𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛!!" Just say yes—you never know what it can open for you.

Be resilient and don’t allow others' disbelief to stop you.

To all the innovative entrepreneurs who joined us: Thank you for making this event a success.

The power of technology, combined with your enduring spirit, will undoubtedly drive the Western Cape economy forward!
