Sunday — The Resurrection
The Gospels all agree that on the first day of the week, the tomb was found empty by women followers, and that resurrection appearances followed. This became the central claim of early Christianity.
Historically, the empty tomb and resurrection are debated, but scholars across belief systems generally agree on a few facts: Jesus died by crucifixion, his followers genuinely believed they encountered him risen, and the Christian movement exploded from Jerusalem shortly after — which is remarkable given the circumstances of his death.
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, built over what tradition holds as the crucifixion and burial site, has been archaeologically investigated and dates back to at least the 4th century AD, with some evidence suggesting the site was venerated even earlier.
