A Master of the Craft: In Conversation with Ramadan Suleman

At Durban FilmMart, we witnessed a powerful and intimate session with legendary filmmaker Ramadan Suleman as part of the DFM In Conversation stream, The Panel is moderated by Mitchell Harper.

Held at Elangeni Hotel, Suites 3 & 4, the session offered deep insight into the creative journey of one of South Africa’s most influential cinematic voices.

From his groundbreaking work on Fools and Zulu Love Letter to his recent projects like Spinners, Suleman unpacked decades of storytelling shaped by political resistance, cultural heritage, and bold artistic vision.

As a founding member of IBFC and a true pioneer, Ramadan reflected on his mentorship of emerging talent, international collaborations, and his unwavering commitment to centering Black voices on screen.

Awarded the Chevalier des Arts et Lettres byFrance, his legacy is not just in his films, but in the doors he continues to open for future generations.

We were honoured to learn, reflect, and be inspired.
