350 Africa 350 Africa is building an African movement to fight climate change. Join us! Africa will be hardest hit by the impacts of climate change.

Already many Africans are fighting to survive increases in drought, floods and extreme weather caused by rising global temperatures. Burning fossil fuels and intensive agriculture release CO2 and other Green House Gases, which the vast majority of climate scientists agree is causing global warming. We are campaigning to keep coal in the ground and for governments to choose clean solar and wind. Th

e African climate movement is growing fast and is made up of countless citizens taking extraordinary actions. From students to scientists, we stand together with the farmers, fishers and communities already fighting to survive climate change every day. And we are part of a global movement whose online campaigns, grassroots organising, and mass public actions are led from the bottom up by people in 188 countries.

As negotiations wrap up at the Bonn Climate Conference ( ), the African Group of Negotiators delivered a crucial reality check to the world regarding the Belém-Antalya Mechanism (BAM).

Moving away from fossil fuels isn’t just about buying solar panels, it’s about survival, equity, and development. Here is what Africa stood for in Week 2:

- Energy Access First: With over 600 million Africans still lacking basic electricity, climate roadmaps must prioritize powering the continent.
- The Right to Industrialize: Frameworks must tie climate action directly to poverty eradication, job creation, and economic growth.
- Funding, Not Debt: Transitioning requires predictable, grant-based financing, not economic penalties disguised as green policies.

We shall continue tracking how these changes will shape the agenda as we head toward COP31 in Antalya.

What is happening in Week 2 at the Bonn Climate Conference?

- Türkiye set a bold COP31 agenda goal: 35% global electrification by 2035.
- Finance remains gridlocked as nations clash over how to structure the trillion-dollar Belém target.
- Progress advanced on a concrete roadmap to halt global deforestation by 2030.

The technical work is setting a tense stage for COP31 in Antalya later this year.

The generation of 1976 fought to transform the South Africa they inherited. Today's generation must do the same. 🇿🇦 ✊🏿

Ours is to ensure that future generations inherit a country where access to affordable energy, economic opportunity, and a healthy environment is not a privilege but a right enjoyed by all.

A better future requires more than promises. It requires power! 🔌

Inspiring the changemakers of tomorrow! 🚀✨

We visited Aga Khan High School for their career event. We loved chatting with the students, explaining our day-to-day work, and sharing how our projects drive real social impact.

Our favorite part? Hearing the students’ own ideas for making the world a better place. The energy was unmatched! 🙌

As fuel prices skyrocket, ordinary families across Africa are being forced to dig deeper into their pockets. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Rukiya Khamis, East Africa Programme Manager at 350.org, writes in The Standard about why Africa needs to break its reliance on fossil fuels. While big multinational corporations rake in billions in profits, local communities bear the brunt of pollution and economic instability.

The alternative is already here:
☀️ Off-grid solar systems and mini-grids are bringing power to hospitals and schools in Uganda, Tanzania, and South Sudan.
🏍️ EV adoption is rising in Kenya, Ethiopia, and Rwanda.

We have the wind, we have the sun, and we have the potential. Let's urge our leaders to invest in public money for public good, clean, affordable, and reliable energy for all.

What do you think is the biggest barrier to clean energy transition in your community?

The faces behind the movement! 🌍✨

Here is the incredible collective of grassroots advocates, youth leaders, private sector innovators, and climate experts who made the REPower Tanzania launch a reality. Together, we spent an intensive week strategizing, building alliances, and laying down the roadmap for a decentralized, community-owned energy future.

Change doesn't happen in isolation, it happens when we stand as a unified national front. From the ground up, we are ready to drive energy justice across Tanzania! ☀️💨
