SSF was proud to attend the wonderful and highly successful SADA Gala Dinner ๐ŸŽ‰
It was an incredible evening shared with valued guests, including our collaborating healthcare professionals, generous sponsors, and members of the SSF management team.
The evening truly showcased the strength, resilience, and inspiring spirit of persons with disabilities, while highlighting the important work being done to advance inclusion and equal opportunities. SADA continues to lead as a powerhouse in the disability sector, driving advocacy and meaningful change for the rights of persons with disabilities.
We are honoured to be part of such a committed and impactful community, and SSF is proud to be a member of SADA. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ
Hereโ€™s to continued collaboration, progress, and lasting impact.

๐Ÿง  Did you know?

The brain has an amazing ability called neuroplasticity, which means it can adapt, rewire, and form new connections after a stroke.

This is how many survivors regain movement, speech, and independence over time.

Recovery takes patience, therapy, and support - with the knowledge that progress is always possible. ๐Ÿ’›

Recovery includes learning to advocate for yourself.

Itโ€™s okay to ask for time.
Itโ€™s okay to ask for support.
Itโ€™s okay to set boundaries.

Your voice matters!
Always!

Aphasia can make speaking, reading, or understanding words difficult after a stroke... But communication is more than words.

Itโ€™s connection.
Itโ€™s expression.
Itโ€™s being seen.

With patience and support, new ways of communicating can be found. ๐Ÿ’›

Welcome 2026 - Discovering sense of self post-stroke,
Written by George Scola

I am almost 18 years post-stroke.

One of the biggest lessons Iโ€™ve learned is that recovery is about far more than physical healing. Itโ€™s about rediscovering who you are, in a changed body and mind.

After a stroke, many of us quietly struggle with questions like:
Who am I now?
What am I able to do?
Where do I fit?

Over time, I learned to stop measuring myself against the past and start taking charge of my own recovery. Support mattersโ€”but empowerment comes from being accountable, adapting to change, and believing in yourself.

Three words have guided me through this journey:
Adapt. Improvise. Overcome.

And to the carers and families who walk this road with usโ€”thank you. Your patience, strength, and care matter more than you may realise. Respite is not a luxury; it is essential.

If youโ€™re on this journey, know this: your sense of self is not lost. It is evolving.
