During a training that we had with our REPSSI social workers, social auxiliary workers and MHPSS facilitators from Secunda, Sasolburg, Soweto and Diepsloot, who work on prevention of and response to Gender Based Violence and Femicide, we found space to renew our spirits through play and laughter.

Linda Theron, from the School of Educational Psychology at the University of Pretoria, REPSSI South Africa Country Director Celeste Matross, REPSSI Regional Head of Programmes Kelvin Ngoma, and Regional Head of Advocacy Chilekwa Chisanga participated in a symposium at the 7th Global Mental Health Summit emphasizing the significance of collaborative research, including individuals with lived experience, in programming and advocacy for mental health. The R-NEET study, led by the University of Pretoria and supported by REPSSI SA as a community partner in South Africa, exemplified the importance of co-created research.

REPSSI South Africa was in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal this past week to facilitate a training of trainers on Psychological First Aid with Disaster Management Services experts from various district municipalities as well as partners from DSD. The training was made possible through the generous support of Old Mutual South Africa through is Humanitarian response unit. Participants were trained through role plays, case scenarios, practice sessions, crisis simulations to support people affected by humanitarian emergencies through this psychosocial support intervention which ensures a reduction in secondary victimisation and better outcomes post emergencies.
