On this Africa Day, we celebrate not only our shared identity as a continent, but the bold emergence of a new African energy narrative—one defined by ownership, innovation, and inclusive growth.

Across AWEaP’s 34 chapters, we are witnessing a powerful shift: Africa is no longer waiting to be powered, we are building, innovating financing, and leading our own energy future. From decentralised systems to utility-scale transformation, from policy corridors to entrepreneurial ecosystems, African women are stepping forward as architects of this transition.

This is a continent rising with intention; where energy is not just infrastructure, but a catalyst for dignity, economic participation, and generational progress.

At AWEaP, our mission is clear: to unlock the full participation of women, youth, and communities across the energy value chain, ensuring that Africa’s transition is not only sustainable; but equitable and transformative.

This Africa Day, we affirm:
The future of energy in Africa will be built by Africans, boldly, inclusively, and unapologetically.

We are excited to officially kick off the 3rd Block of the AWEaP - Introduction to Energy Policy and Regulation Programme. Dr Steven Mathetsa and the WBS team have officially touched down in Limpopo 🚗🙌🏽

Dr Mathetsa will be leading this week’s sessions, focusing on Energy Policy & Regulatory Frameworks, energy diversification, investment, and grid modernisation at the municipal level.

Energy Policy and Regulatory Frameworks

• The rules, laws, and policies that guide how electricity and energy are managed in South Africa.

Energy diversification

• Different ways of producing energy, not only relying on one source, but also looking at solar, wind, gas, and other energy options.

Investment

• How government, municipalities, and companies can invest money into improving energy systems and infrastructure.

Grid modernisation at the municipal level

• How municipalities can improve and upgrade their electricity systems to make them more reliable, efficient, and ready for future energy needs.

Congratulations to Bertha Rirhandzu Dlamini on her nomination to the prestigious Austrian Leadership Program (ALPS) 2026.

This recognition is both significant and strategic. Being selected through a highly curated diplomatic process, led by the Austrian Foreign Ministry in collaboration with the Austrian Economic Chamber, the Federation of Austrian Industries, and the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, places Ms Dlamini among a global cohort of influential leaders shaping the future of economic and political cooperation.

Her participation not only affirms her leadership and continental impact but also strengthens the voice and visibility of African Women in Energy and Power within global platforms, driving dialogue on trade, energy transition, and inclusive development.

As she represents both South Africa and the broader African energy ecosystem in Austria this June, this milestone reflects a powerful convergence of diplomacy, leadership, and purpose.

Wishing her a transformative and impactful engagement, one that continues to open doors for collaboration, innovation, and inclusive growth across the continent.

As we wrapped up the Limpopo Cohort of the AWEaP JET Skills Development Programme: Utility Professionals 2026, the power of collaboration stands out as a defining theme.

Over the past three days, participants gained critical knowledge and worked together to unpack challenges, share solutions, and strengthen their role in driving the Just Energy Transition at a municipal level.

The connections built, ideas exchanged, and solutions developed during this programme will extend far beyond the classroom, contributing to more resilient, inclusive, and locally grounded energy systems.

This is what meaningful change looks like: collaboration, capability, and collective action.

The future is collaborative.

The future is energy.

And the future is NOW. ⚡

AWEaP JET Skills Development Programme: Limpopo 2026 shifts into a dynamic phase of collaboration and co-creation.

Building on the technical knowledge and insights gained, participants are now working together, sharing experiences, exchanging perspectives, and tackling real-world challenges facing municipal utilities.

Through group discussions, the cohort is co-developing practical, locally relevant solutions that address the realities of South Africa’s Just Energy Transition.

This is where knowledge meets collaboration, and where ideas begin to take shape into actionable outcomes.

Building on a powerful start, participants continue to engage with leading voices in the energy sector, deepening insights and advancing critical conversations around South Africa’s evolving energy landscape.

At the heart of this programme is a commitment to strengthening municipal utility capabilities and equipping professionals with the tools to navigate the complexities of the Just Energy Transition.

Dr. Silas Mulaudzi leads the Energy Value Chains module, providing a structured understanding of energy value chain constructs across South Africa’s energy ecosystem.

Using his expertise in energy policy, regulatory frameworks, and value chain optimisation, the session explores the systemic shifts shaping the sector and connects theory with real-world municipal applications.

Participants are actively engaging in applied dialogue and collaborative problem-solving, turning knowledge into action.

This programme is supported by EWSETA, with Wits Business School as the academic partner, and forms part of AWEaP’s continued effort to deliver context-specific JET programmes at the municipal level.

Thought-provoking. Practical. Transformative. ⚡

What started as a journey for a property development business became a complete shift in vision, toward infrastructure development and maintenance within the energy sector.

✨ “I didn’t just gain knowledge, I gained a roadmap.”

Understanding the energy value chain revealed exactly where my business fits in South Africa’s Just Energy Transition. But beyond that, three lessons stood out:

• Collaboration is key to growth 🤝
• Visibility builds credibility 📢
• Digital tools are essential for survival 💻

This experience didn’t just change perspective, it redefined direction.

From rural roots to energy impact ⚡

Attending the AWEaP JET Masterclass was a truly transformative experience. It opened up new ways of thinking and revealed real opportunities within the energy sector, especially for those of us from communities where access to electricity is not guaranteed.

✨ “Clean energy should not be a luxury, it should be accessible to all.”

Through this experience, I’ve been inspired to become an agent of change, promoting sustainable solutions and improving lives in my community.

As a farmer, exploring solutions like solar PV has shown me how energy can be both practical and empowering.

This is more than knowledge, it’s the beginning of meaningful impact. 🌱
