Today, on Youth Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience and potential of South Africa's young people.
While we honour the courage of the youth of 1976, we must also recognise the challenges many young people face today.....Anxiety, depression, bullying, violence, substance abuse, family conflict, academic pressure and uncertainty about the future can have a significant impact on mental wellbeing.
Young people need safe spaces where they can talk openly, be heard without judgment, and receive support when they are struggling.
Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is simply LISTEN 👂
As parents, caregivers, educators and community members, we all have a role to play in helping young people feel valued, connected and hopeful about their future.
This Youth Day, let's remind our young people:
💙 You are important.
💙 Your feelings matter.
💙 It is okay to ask for help.
💙 You do not have to face your struggles alone.
When we support the mental wellbeing of our youth, we invest in a stronger, healthier future for our communities and our country.
Happy Youth Day, South Africa.
