OFFICIAL STATEMENT: OUTCOME OF THE SCHOOL BULLYING INCIDENT

Onkies Foundation would like to provide an update regarding the school bullying incident involving a learner living with albinism and his sister, which we previously addressed on our social media platforms.

Today, a meeting was held at the school with the learners involved, their parents, the school principal, and the School Governing Body (SGB) to discuss the incident, consider the allegations, and establish a clearer understanding of what had transpired.

Following the discussions and consideration of the information presented, it emerged that the bullying was not a one-sided matter. The discussions revealed that the learners involved had bullied one another, and the situation involved multiple instances of bullying among the parties.

The school principal indicated that the learners involved would face disciplinary consequences, with the intention of holding them equally accountable for their involvement in bullying.

As Onkies Foundation, we participated in this process because we believe that every child’s concerns deserve to be heard and that no learner should be subjected to bullying, discrimination, or abuse. At the same time, accountability must apply to everyone involved, regardless of who they are or what their circumstances may be.

Our position remains clear: bullying is unacceptable, regardless of who the victim or perpetrator may be. Every learner deserves to feel safe, respected, and protected in their school environment.

We appreciate the school principal, the SGB, the parents, and everyone who participated in today’s meeting. We hope that the disciplinary process will help the learners understand the seriousness of their actions, take responsibility, and learn to treat one another with dignity and respect.

This matter also serves as an important reminder to our community that we should not rush to conclusions before hearing all sides of a story. Every child deserves fairness, and every child must be held accountable for their actions.

Onkies Foundation will continue advocating for the safety, dignity, and well-being of children in our communities.

Bullying has no place in our schools. Accountability must be fair, and every child’s dignity must be protected.

Onkies Foundation and Oratile would like to sincerely apologise to the management and team of 595 for mentioning their establishment in connection with the ongoing bullying allegations.

The establishment was mentioned because a child believed that one of the individuals involved stayed there. We have since learned that this information was incorrect.

We acknowledge this misunderstanding and regret any inconvenience or reputational harm it may have caused. We support the child’s apology and, as Onkies Foundation, take this opportunity to extend our sincere apologies to the management and team of 595.

Our mission is to stand against bullying, protect children’s wellbeing, and advocate for justice. However, we also recognise the importance of verifying information, being fair to everyone involved, and taking accountability when misunderstandings occur.

We sincerely hope this apology will be accepted, and we appreciate your understanding.

We stand against bullying, but we also stand for truth, fairness, and accountability. Our ultimate goal is for the truth to come out and justice to be served.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT | ONKIES FOUNDATION

Onkies Foundation was contacted by the Mahlatse and Oratile family seeking assistance following a video circulating on social media involving allegations of bullying and threats against Mahlatse.

In response to the family’s request, we visited them, listened to the children share their experiences, recorded their statements, and shared the videos on our social media platforms to raise awareness and seek assistance.

However, we acknowledge that every situation has different perspectives, and it is important to give everyone a fair opportunity to be heard. Our intention was never to judge, attack, or unfairly portray anyone involved.

We do not promote bullying in any form, and we also believe in fairness, dignity, and giving everyone an opportunity to share their side of the story.

If anyone involved, or anyone with relevant information, wishes to share another perspective on this matter, we respectfully invite them to contact Onkies Foundation directly so that we can listen and better understand the situation.

At the end of the day, we want justice to be served. We believe that every child deserves to be heard, protected, and treated fairly. JUSTICE FOR NKADIMENG
FAMILY

Stop Bullying. Stop Discrimination.
From a playground accusation, to bullying at their home, to an attack at school - ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Onkies Foundation stands with the Nkadimeng family - our Grade 9 and Grade 11 sisters.
One family. Two sisters. One fight for dignity.

We are calling for:
Proper investigation by the school
Protection for both sisters
Psychological support for the family
Awareness to end discrimination against persons with albinism

Justice must be done with dignity, not with more violence.

Part 2 of the story of Mahlatse, a Grade 11 learner at Phutlotau Secondary School under Schoonoord circuit

This is NOT okay. Albinism is NOT a crime.
Onkies Foundation says NO to bullying and NO to discrimination.
We are supporting the family.

This is discrimination. This is painful. No child should be beaten for how she was born.
Albinism is a genetic condition. It is NOT a curse. It is NOT contagious.
She deserves respect, safety and dignity like every other learner.
