Butterfly Palliative Home Butterfly Palliative Home is a children’s hospice providing holistic palliative care to vulnerable children in South Africa.

Founded in rural KZN, we currently have two in-patient children’s hospices and home-based care teams.

Today is Amy and Mama Tarryn’s birthday, and tomorrow is Sbo’s! So naturally, our Ingwavuma children’s hospice took the opportunity to celebrate in proper Butterfly style, with lots of treats, happy faces and birthday fun. 🥳💗

Our Amy girl turned EIGHT, and Sbo is turning TEN tomorrow! Two big birthdays for two very special little Butterflies. 💕

Today is a special day at Butterfly as we celebrate two very special girls: our wonderful Butterfly Mommy and co-founder, Tarryn Bell, and our sweet Amy! 🥳💕

Tarryn, we thank God for the heart He has given you for these little ones and for the love, strength and dedication you pour into Butterfly, day after day. So much of what makes Butterfly feel like family comes from the heart you bring to it. We pray that the year ahead brings you renewed strength, unexpected blessings, moments of deep joy and the same love you so freely give to others. Tonight at 11pm, Butterfly Home’s Tarryn Bell joins Jon Gericke on SAfmRadio’s Night Fall to discuss an important issue affecting children with palliative care needs in South Africa: the shortage of pain medication and the challenges surrounding access to essential pain relief.

Following a recent article highlighting this issue, the interview will shine a light on the challenges of ensuring that children who need palliative care have access to the medication they need to manage their pain.

Every child deserves relief from pain and the chance to be as comfortable as possible. 💗

There are 5 crucial things that matter greatly to us at Butterfly Home. In fact, they are so important that we made them our goals, our precepts.

𝟱 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗢 𝗨𝗦:

1️⃣ To provide quality palliative care to orphaned and abandoned young children within a loving, homely environment.

2️⃣ To advocate for the rights of all children in need of adequate palliative care services and pain management within South Africa.

3️⃣ To provide support to families and carers looking after young children with complex medical conditions.

4️⃣ To advocate for the right of children with complex medical conditions to be adopted or placed in loving alternative homes instead of institutionalised care and prolonged hospitalisation.

5️⃣ To educate members of the public about children's palliative care and the rights of children to be afforded loving care and dignity in death.
