Coding for Mandela Success! 🎉💻

KICP student teacher, Thobeka Mavundla, placed at Iziphozethu Primary School, participated in the Coding for Mandela Competition with a team of Grade 3 learners - and it was their first time taking part! 🌟

The team proudly achieved 3rd place demonstrating excellent teamwork, focus and problem-solving skills.

LWYA 2026 participants recently completed Module 4 of the ‘Lead Where You Are’ School Leadership Course. The module focused on analysing technical and adaptive challenges to strengthen SMT leadership and management strategies.

Student teachers spent two days at the KICP Initial Teacher Education Winter Summit 2026.

Our sessions were spent mastering classroom management, student-led discussion and indigenous game-based learning. Beyond pedagogy, our Student teachers built real-world skills, from personal financial planning and SARS/UIF tax basics, to job interview prep, and emotional resilience.

🏅 Huge congratulations to Robyn McQueen, KICP’s Project Mentor on completing the 99th Comrades Marathon Up Run in a time of 9:22:31 and earning a Robert Mtshali medal. Her resilience, determination, and commitment to running for a meaningful cause are an inspiration.

KICP Class of 2025 Graduation 🎓

KICP hosted a celebratory luncheon for the 2025 cohort of B.Ed graduates, who had recently attended their UNISA graduation ceremonies. Special recognition was given to 5 student teachers who graduated cm laude for academic distinction.

The celebration featured guest speakers Mr Sibongiseni Thabede and Miss Anele Ntentesa, both KICP Class of 2022 alumni who encouraged the new graduates to relentlessly pursue knowledge, work hard for their dreams, and to focus on personal growth to succeed.

It was a joyous occasion, filled with pride and gratitude on attaining this significant milestone.

KICP student teachers met at their respective hubs for the quarterly Saturday workshop, held at the central venue in Inanda, Edendale in the Midlands, and KwaDukuza in the north. Sessions focused on Social and Emotional Learning, Instructional practice, the Five Priority goals for the 2026 Sustainable Development Goals and building Teacher Files. The professional development programme concluded with reflective practice activities.

In a KICP collaboration with youth@WORK, 10 newly qualified teachers were recently placed in four Mandeni schools. The NQTs completed a two-day onboarding programme, after which school principals and mentors met to discuss the programme’s value and objectives. We were joined by the acting Circuit Manager, Mr D.S. Mdlalose, who welcomed the NQTs to the teaching profession.
