As fire season preparedness activities continue across KwaZulu-Natal, a second SEAT (Single Engine Air Tanker) loading training exercise was successfully conducted yesterday at Sevenoaks Hill Airfield.

This hands-on training provided an opportunity for aviation support crews and operational personnel to practise the safe and efficient loading of firefighting aircraft, ensuring that teams are ready to respond when wildfire incidents occur.

The effectiveness of aerial firefighting operations depends on much more than aircraft availability. Well-trained personnel, efficient loading procedures, strong communication, and seamless teamwork are all critical factors that contribute to rapid response times and successful fire suppression efforts.

Regular training exercises such as these help improve operational efficiency, reinforce safety standards, build confidence among personnel, and strengthen coordination between all role players involved in wildfire management.

The KZN FPA extends its appreciation to everyone who participated in the training. By investing in skills development and operational readiness before the season begins, we are collectively enhancing our capacity to protect lives, property, infrastructure, and natural resources throughout KwaZulu-Natal.

As KwaZulu-Natal's fire season approaches, operational readiness remains a top priority.
Yesterday, aviation personnel, ground crews, and wildfire management teams gathered at Shafton Airfield for SEAT (Single Engine Air Tanker) loading training. These practical exercises are a critical component of fire season preparation, ensuring that aircraft can be safely and efficiently loaded and deployed when every minute counts.
Wildfire response depends not only on equipment and aircraft, but on the skill, competence, and coordination of the people behind the operation. Regular training helps strengthen operational procedures, improve safety standards, and build the confidence required to perform effectively under demanding conditions.

The KZN FPA extends its appreciation to all participants who invested their time and expertise in this important exercise. Through ongoing training and collaboration, we continue to strengthen our collective wildfire response capability and enhance our readiness to protect communities, natural resources, and livelihoods throughout the province.

🚁 Fire Season Officially Underway in KwaZulu-Natal

As of 1 June, the official fire season has commenced across KwaZulu-Natal. Preparedness, coordination, and rapid response are essential as we enter the months of elevated veldfire risk.

The KZNFPA is pleased to announce that the aerial firefighting resources are now in position, with the spotter aircraft and water bombers having arrived at Shafton Airfield and standing ready to support members and stakeholders throughout the season.

These aircraft play a critical role in early fire detection, incident assessment, aerial coordination, and suppression operations, helping to protect lives, property, agricultural assets, natural resources, and infrastructure across the province.

We encourage all landowners, fire managers, and operational teams to remain vigilant, maintain firebreaks, monitor daily Fire Danger Index forecasts, and ensure that fire response plans are in place.

A successful fire season depends on cooperation, preparedness, and swift action.

We wish all our members and partners a safe and effective fire season.

The latest Department of Water and Sanitation State of Dams report indicates that dam levels across KwaZulu-Natal remain stable, with many key water storage systems maintaining healthy levels heading into the winter season.

Regular monitoring of dam levels remains critical for agriculture, fire management, water security, and environmental planning across the province.

KZN FPA encourages landowners, communities, and stakeholders to stay informed as water availability and seasonal weather conditions continue to play an important role during the 2026 fire season. 🌧️💧🔥
